QEDDave
OK, gotta apologise right off the bat for such a simple ques with prob an easy answer, but,: now that I have drawn my rectangle and clicked on something else, how do I click on the rectangle and change its properties ie: add an outline to its border
Sarkut
Draw your rectangle on a new layer. (Transparent) Use one of the Outline Object plugins to add an outline to its border. Crazy Man Dan
Paint.NET is strictly a raster editor, so you're not actually drawing objects. You can manipulate the settings of a shape while it is actively being drawn, but once you click to finalize it, that shape is stored merely as a group of pixels on a layer - you cannot interact with it again in that manner. As Sarkut suggested, however, you can use the Outline Object plugin to add a border separately after you've created the shape, provided you drew it on a new layer all its own.
