mpeterson
How do I know what to get rid of, though?
pyrochild
If Paint.NET is in the list, that. If not, then the .NET Framework 3.5. Quote ambigram signature by Kemaru [i write plugins and stuff] If you like a post, upvote it!
mpeterson
I don't have 3.5 installed. I'm trying to install it with the Paint.NET program, which is still not working.
Ego Eram Reputo
If .NET 3.5 is not installed, FIRST try the cleanup utility to make sure there are NO remnants of it left on your system. Next, go back to the second post in this thread (here: ), and try manuallly reinstalling 3.5 from the link given. mpeterson
How do I know what is left on there? I'm not very computer-savvy, as you can tell.

mpeterson
I don't have that on there. I'm trying to install it, along with Paint.NET.
Sarkut
Please open the Windows Installer Cleanup program. Make one or more screenshots showing all items in the program interface. (Save screenshots as PNG filetype.) Then close the program. http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ http://imageshack.us/ Examples of what I mean. http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/7663/msicu01.png http://img854.imageshack.us/img854/9304/msicu02.png ============================================ Also, in the bottom-left of the screen click on the start icon, type winver and press Enter. Verify your Windows version and Service Pack level. Edited March 13, 2011 by Sarkut
mpeterson
Here are screenshots of every program included in the Windows Installer Clean up utility, as well as a screenshot of what windows version I have and the Service Pack level i have: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up3.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up4.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up5.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up6.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_installer_clean_up7.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v497/Chosen_Master_Shobu/windows_version_and_service_pack_level.jpg
pyrochild
Have you tried temporarily disabling your antivirus or security software prior to installation? mpeterson
I tried that, and I still get the same problem.
pyrochild
OK, getting annoyed here. Not at you, mpeterson, just at the fact that we can't get this working. Try working through this thread: Please be very careful when messing with the registry. This is always a last resort. mpeterson
I really don't want to mess with the registry, because, as I said before, I'm not very techno-savvy.
pyrochild
I think you're gonna need to take this issue to Microsoft. It's the .NET Framework that's not installing in the first place, and they will be able to help you a lot more than we can. mpeterson
I'm not sure how I can contact them. Their Contact Us page is so confusing.
Sarkut
I'd give this a try: https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?gprid=6527&st=1&wfxredirect=1&sd=gn
