Creating .ico with transparent background

Recommended Posts

I would like to know if anyone knows how to create a Windows XP .ico (icon) with a transparent background with paint.net.

The attached picture shows the red apple on the right without transparency and on the left with.

Currently, ICONXP (30-day trialware) and SimplyIcon (freeware) are used.

I don't think you can do this through Paint.NET. There's currently no export for .ico. However, I can recommend you two other services you might try - both are free.

I particularly prefer Converticon because it can create 512x512px and store multiple icons sizes within a single icon. IcoFX only creates up to 256x256px icons but it'll allow to create both Windows and Macintosh icons.

Hope this helps.
