Make extreme light

This is the picture we want to edit:

Copy the background layer:

And maximize its contrast using Brightness/Contrast:

Then select the whole black area with the magic wand and remove it: *

Run a gaussian blur:

Copy the blurred layer and run zoom blur:

You can now change the transparency for a better result:

At the point marked with * you can also use the original image instead of white:

*sigh* one image 5150pixels high. What part of Tutorial Guidelines 1a "less than 800 pixels at their largest dimension" don't you understand?

Nice effect - reminds me of the Alien egg (you know the one in the promo pics with the crack & the green light spilling out?).
