does this support the newest photoshop plugins SDK?

It has partial support for the Photoshop 4.0 SDK, although many plugins built with newer SDKs should work as long as they use the old pre 5.0 callbacks (no support for the 5.0 PICA suites or the Channel Ports suite from 4.0).

The license of the Photoshop SDKs after 6.0 prevents other host developers from using the information that they contain, and even the 6.0 SDK license requires a legal copy of Photoshop 6.0 to obtain it from the CD as Adobe does not distribute it anymore.

The AETE scripting should now be fully implemented and the PseudoResource suite now works correctly.

Additionally shortcuts to filters will now work in addition to copying the filters into a folder along with a few other bug fixes.

File version updated to 1.0.4.4. :D

Hello, I have a thread in the Troubleshooting section about my older 8bf plugins (transferred via finger drive off my old XP desktop) giving me troubles in my new Paint.Net install. I followed the directions carefully about pointing PN at the desired folders on my drive. Yes, I copied over the two special files into Effects. And all my plugins are listed...but when I hit "Run Filter," nothing happens. :(

I get the feeling that maybe this is because my old XP was 32-bit and the much newer laptop is 64 bit?  Is there something I can do to get all my 8bf's working in this very cool program of yours? :D

The most likely cause is that the filter is missing a dependency, unfortunately there is no easy way to tell what it is looking for. :/

*Sigh* Yeah, and I'm lost when it comes to that... Perhaps I should pick up the newer filters around the forum here? I do still use and enjoy my old graphics program but there could come the day when I can't use that anymore...

I see where folks here are using Topaz Products, I have certain ones of those and didn't think about paint.net being compatible with them! How would I achieve that? I prolly use Topaz Adjust more than anything else in my whole collection ;) (And if I need a new thread to ask about that, kindly advise.)

Ooh, and I see a link about Jasc Paint Shop Pro filetype... might be useful to me if I can get things sorted!

If you have the installer for any of your existing filters you could try reinstalling them, which should replace any missing files.

Regarding the Topaz filters, the 32-bit plugins should work fine.

This is the thread to use for any issues with Photoshop filters and Paint.NET.  :)

:( That's good....because two things happened when i tried to run my Topaz plugins. I pointed to their folder, but only Topaz Lens Effects showed on the list. Topaz Adjust refused to appear. Then I decided to try running Lens Effects and the program crashed. Here is my report:

:( That's good....because two things happened when i tried to run my Topaz plugins. I pointed to their folder, but only Topaz Lens Effects showed on the list. Topaz Adjust refused to appear. Then I decided to try running Lens Effects and the program crashed.

What version of Topaz Adjust are you using?

The latest version from their site shows in the menu, but the 64-bit version crashes with the same error as Lens Effects.

As far as I can tell the cause of the crashes appears to be a bug in .NET 3.5, both 64-bit filters work correctly when run under the latest beta of Paint.NET 4.0.

As a workaround you could force Paint.NET to use the 32-bit plugins by pointing it to the 32-bit version of the Topaz plugins, for Lens Effects this would be: C:\Program Files (x86)\Topaz Labs\Topaz Lens Effects\Plugins

Finally you are using an outdated version of PSFilterPdn, the current version is 1.0.4.8. :)

I hate to say it but I don't know much about filters :fear: .....would they still be downloaded to your effects folder or someplace else?  :tardII: ( I know, I know I have been working with Paint.NET for a while and should know this by now.)

Uhh, versions 4 and 5...version 5 has the older filters stored in it so one can revert back to them, and I do that a lot ;)

OH, maybe my problems stem from using the outdated PDN.... For some reason (probably a throwback to my XP days) I am still a wee bit leery of Beta anything, and I automatically shy away in case it is a 'work in progress' that will gum up my puter... lol. My very first newbie question here should have been about whether PDN's beta was OK for those of us who are not good at fixing the innards of our own computers... Well, if it's safe then I shall install the newest version... I would think then it could handle even my other 32 bit plugins...

I think my Topaz filters are both strictly 32 bit, unless the crash report indicates something I didn't know about...

Oh and something else, I am running my plugins from a folder independent of Windows program folders. The reason I did that was I didn't know for certain how to install Paint Shop Pro from disc into the 8.1 system folders. The independent plugin folder seems to be working OK with the Jasc program, only everything is a bit buggy and I get nag messages about incompatibility...hence my effort to begin learning the ropes in Paint.Net...

For PDN, would it help to move Topaz, at least, into the (x86) folder? Or does it really matter where plugins are living?

Maybe it is a good thing or maybe it's a crutch, but over the years (and I have used Paint Shop Pro since 2002!) I have gradually become addicted and therefore dependent on plugins.... I don't always do heavy post work on photos but I have learned that certain filters can do magic, even with a photo that is slightly out of focus or has bad lighting or lousy contrast.  My cameras are cheap also....and so I could not imagine being without my favorite filters :kitteh: However, it is clear that the time has come for me to start shifting away from my old outdated friend over to a different program that won't cause problems and can also make use of the plugins I have loved for so long...

Where the plugins are located does not matter.

The crash report indicates that the 64-bit version of Lens Effects is being used.

That crash is fixed in the latest version of PSFilterPdn, attached in the first post of this thread. ;)

The new file version is 1.0.4.9.

Aahh, and Oh My....I am surprised that 64 bit Lens Effects was working OK on my old XP 32 bit... =O

Groovy!!! I'm'onna pounce on the new PDN :P and then maybe everything will smooth out for me...

Hi there.  I finally got around to trying this plugin out - which is really fantastic, thank you.

However, I can only get LunarCell and Super Blade Pro to work.

When I try any of the others, like:  Hue & Cry, Melancholytron, Flexify and Contrast there is no image in the box when I open the particular Plugin.

This is what I see - attachment below.

What am I doing wrong?  Many thanks in advance.

Agree with you, Pixey ! This plugin is really awesome and a very good reason why I never and don't want to delete the .8bf files that I kept in my netbook since 2011 ( when I was still used Vicman's Photo Editor ).Now I can re- use my favorite filters- Optikverve Lab's virtualPhotographer and  Xero's Porcelain.

There're many great Photoshop plugins out there ( including layer mask ) that can be run on Paint.Net because of Null54's hard work. And here are my new favorite lists :

1.Luce by Amico Perry. ( This is for making light rays. From my experience, I'm suggesting that Paint.Net 4.0 users installing Luce2, on x86 folder which is compatible to Paint.Net 4.0, rather than the earlier Luce or Luce2 on x64 folder )

2. Lens Flare and Glow by Axion

3. Diffuse Glow by Richard Rosenman

4. MezzoForceIce by 2manekenai ( for those who are crazy on making real-looking ice cubes )

5. Snowflakes by VanDerLee.

Sorry for not including URL links, for the time being just go google or stumble upon.

Both the x86 and x64 versions of Luce2 work in Paint.NET 4.0.

If you are using a 64-bit OS PSFilterPdn will automatically use the x64 version of Luce2 if it finds both versions.
