The way to do this will vary depending on the specifics

of the particular image that you are working on.

If it is an object on a transparent layer,

you can use Mike Ryan's Silhoutte Plus plugin.

Or you could do the following one or more times.

Go to:

Adjustments > Brightness / Contrast

Move the Brightness slider all the way to the left.

Move the Contrast slider all the way to the right.

If it is not on a transparent background, you may need to

use one of the cutting out techniques, like this:

If you can post a link to an image that you want to turn into

a silhoutte it will help towards getting the best advice.
