Paint.NET is getting noticed!

Someone decided to sell PDN. I came across this when trying to find out how cheap you can get PS CS3 for.

He's perfectly legit. What he is doing is selling a service (compiling all of those programs onto a disk for you). It's clear (I think) that the programs themselves are otherwise free.

But aren't most of the programs on a lisence saying that people can't make money by selling it on?

He's just selling the CD. I think it would be the same if the CD just had links to the respective websites.

Is rick getting a cut? If not then Thats a problem. Rick and the gang deserve first crack at that. Thats not the way to get PDN out there IMHO. I have always thought The team should merchandise the goodies on disc here. video tuts and such, compiled plug in suites. But really there is no need for it.

That's why 3.20 has that red text in the installer reminding users that Paint.NET is free of charge and to get a refund if they paid for it (except for donations, of course).

The image editor Paint.NET offers all the options a medium user could need. The software is free, but the creators are always happy with a donation.

The program has several advanced features, like working with layers, and various effects. U can rotate in 3D, there are noise-effects and radial blur. New in the previous version was that at least Service Pack 2 had to be installed on XP-computers. Also, new image effects were introduced. Besides that, the program reads and stores the DPI-settings correctly.

Furthermore, Paint.NET has an integrated update function, a very nice tool to draw lines and curves, and supports different languages. The application can handle BMP, GIF, JPEG, TIFF and TGA. The interface is very easy-to-use.

...(some more stuff about what was new in version 3, multiple document interface etc.)

(Sorry for the sloppy translation, I'm not so good at english...)

It does edit images, so "image editor" is a completely fair description. On the website I use many terms to describe it: image editor, photo editor, digital photo editor, image and photo editor tool, etc. (I use many terms for SEO purposes)

Anyway, back on topic ...

Michael J Hardy is at it again, plagiarizing all of the plugins from this forum!

Edit: Here's the forum post from the last time we ran into him, viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1206&view=previous

I have sent him this e-mail:

Michael J. Hardy,

So we meet again. Once again (this is the 3rd time at least) you are blatantly violating the licensing and copyright of Paint.NET, and ripping off plugins from the Paint.NET forum. The software in question is called “Creative Paint!” located here:

http://www.ultra-software.com/paint/index.html

You have also plagiarized content from the Paint.NET website, and have removed the copyright and permission notice from what you are distributing. Not only that, but your software removes Paint.NET when you install it and also tries to use the same installation directory (C:\Program Files\Paint.NET). It incorrectly claims to be based on “PaintDotNet” which is a program that does not exist (it’s called Paint.NET). Throughout the program itself it also claims to be Paint.NET (“Choose Tool Defaults”, for instance).

I also don’t think the various plugin authors will be happy to hear that you are blatantly ripping off their plugins without their permission, and without giving them any credit. This is a blatant violation of United States copyright law, and is not just a matter of etiquette.

So, this is another cease-and-desist notice. You must remove the “Creative Paint!” software from your website immediately, and also discontinue the product. I will check back on Thursday and if this is done then I will consider the matter settled.

-Rick Brewster

Well, sue him. Sue him. Means he gets arrested for trying to make money out of your hard work, either that or you don't release the source code openly (i.e, you request it)

And now, 1. I'm going to send him a lot of e-mails to him

2. Try and find away for his website to be took down, as he's plagurises tons of programs.

EDIT: Found some information on his web host, meaning you can contact them about it.

This is guy is a huge internet fraudster.....I'm getting a list of all his ripped off stuff.....

There may be some more, but this guy is seriously in one hell of a trouble.....Say, 10 years in jail at least?

And also here is the entire site directory of his ultra-software site. http://search.msn.co.uk/results.aspx?q= ... ftware.com

Calm down. I agree with your sentiment, but "you are not Judge Judy and executioner" (say it out loud, it's funnier that way).

Judge Judy is the executioner. So, just say "you are not Judge Judy".

By the way, this guy has to be either the Internet's biggest non-funny jokester, or he's genuinely delusional.

Perhaps he's H.P. Lovecraft in disguise? >_>

Sadly, he lacks the creativity to make up stuff himself.

That made me laugh.

EDIT:

Heres something else:

Creative Paint Was Created By Michael J. Hardy Using The Open Source PaintDotnet Project By Rick Brewster and Contributors... PaintDotNet's Development Team is NOT Responsible For Creative Paint Nor Supports It... Creative Paint is Based on The Source of PaintDotNet and Should Not Be MisRepresented as PaintDotNet...

More like "Creative Paint was stolen from the rightful creators of Paint.NET. I hope you enjoy!"

I got a good laugh out of that one. I also laughed at the fact that, for his original 10 minute modification of Paint.NET, he used the Visual Basic Trial off the internet, and used his family for "beta testing".

Well, I've just tried it. Thankfully I kept a back-up of my old plug-in files and the likes.

Fisrt of all I found it un-installs any new PDN version, which makes me ask, can PDN not remove itself unless it's by a new actual PDN version?

Now, after waiting for a while to see if it would install (it did, unfortunetely, after 10 minutes) I saw he had a damn donate button. Yeah. The cheek of him.

Now, lets just take a look at it..........

*just peeded himself from the start up thing*

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT! Seriously, I really got scared by it opening up.

Now, if you call this bad, it still remembers which things I opened while I had PDN.....Dead scary.....

And it also uses the same plug-in's I have! I didn't even choose C://Program Files/ Paint.NET as it's instaillation directory!

*me wee's himself again*

And now there is a really dodgy noise whenever I use the paintbrush...... It's like a gun!

Anyways, I'm back to installing the real PDN! After I find out how to un-install Creative Paint.......
