Pasting into Selection

Recommended Posts

Hi All:

Brand new to Paint.Net and am wondering what the simplest way to "paste into a selection" is. I have been a long-time user of Paintshop Pro, but thought I would try out something new and much more recent. I'm really enjoying Paint.Net but am trying to figure out some basic functions I regularly use in PSP. For example, in PSP you could quickly select an entire image or portion of an image; and paste a second separate image into the selected portion of the first image. This worked regardless of the size of each image, as the second image being pasted into the first image would automatically be sized to fit the selected section of the first image. I have played around with the paste function in Paint.Net for about an hour; however, both the "Expand Canvas" and "Keep Canvas Size" don't really work for what I'm trying to do. Perhaps there is even a plug-in that does this effectively.

I'm also wondering how to easily join two images together side by side to make one big image. When I try to do this, the second image is simply placed into the "frame" or within the "outer margins" of the first image, rather than beside it and thus increasing the overall size. I expect there might not be an easy way to do this apart from increasing the "background of the first image, and then pasting the second image into that increased background...

And a final question, if I may... I have a hand full of really good plug-ins that I use with PSP (i.e. Xenofex, Flaming Pear, KPT etc). Will these work within Paint.Net?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Try these threads:

combine 2 images side by side

side by side pics

Paint.Net doesn't have the paste into a selection feature of PSP.

One way to accomplish the same end is to open the larger image in its own file,

resize it, copy it, and paste it into a new layer in your main project file.

You can then position it using the Move Selected Pixels tool. :MoveTool:
