Sarkut
Can you post links to a pair of example images? For comparison purposes. 1 ) Original 2 ) Your edit of the original that now shows as dimensionally smaller on your website.

samlee
Sarkut here are the links http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/4305/asainwithtxtandujack.jpg http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/893/imagesjpg2h.jpg thanks again for all your help, as you will see the one without the txt and union jack is the original one regards stephen
Sarkut
What has happened is that your edit has been saved with the larger default size (800x600) Paint.NET canvas intact. Your web site then tries to make that large image fit into the smaller allotted space.
Sarkut
------------------------------------------------------- Open the Union Jack image. Next, import the original. Layers > Import From File It will import already selected, so you can do this: Image > Crop to Selection ----------------------------------- Now, delete the imported layer. The edit is now correctly cropped. Save.
samlee
sorry not sure what you mean, i would like to start from scratch, so i will import the original yeh? (do i need to set the size of the layer?) then i will add the txt yeh? then i add another layer and import the union jack yeh? and then what? thanks for all your help sarkut stephen
Sarkut
If you start from scratch, open the original instead of importing it. File > Open It will be sized correctly that way. If the union jack is a big image, resize it separately before bring it in. Otherwise it will expand the canvas when it's brought in. I don't know what size your source image for the union jack is. (pixel dimensions) .

I have done what you said and i have the picture with the txt in it and i have resized the union jack and brought that in on a seperate layer but i cant get the picture of the jack to merge in with the picture of the girl, can you explain the best way for me to do that thanks again for all your help Stephen
Sarkut
If you mean getting the image to be one layer for saving as PNG or JPEG: Image > Flatten ======================= If you mean that it doesn't look the way that you want it to, then another image link with more explanation will be helpful. samlee
what i mean is i want the union jack to be in the bottom corner of the original picture thanks stephen
Sarkut
Bring the union jack in on its own new layer. It can be repositioned using the Move Selected Pixels tool.
samlee
done that and both layers are in seperate windows in the layers panel, but how exactly do i merge the 2 together? the merge option box does not highlight when my curser goes over it! can you explain exactly how to go about it as i am starting to pull my hair out now!! thanks again for all your kind help Sarkut stephen
Sarkut
A layer is always merged down, into a layer below it. If you have only two layers, make the top one the active layer. ------------------------------------- Merging layers is done one layer at a time. The menu option of Image > Flatten will combine all layers into one simultaneously, whether you have two layers or a hundred layers. Which layer is active doesn't matter. samlee
sarkut i have now tried both methods and i still cant get it to merge!!! going bald now!! thanks stephen
Sarkut
We are probably having a problem with semantics around the word "merge" which has a specific jargon meaning in image editing. Could you post a link to a full screenshot of the open file in Paint.NET? Showing the full Paint.NET user interface with all floating windows? ================ http://www.take-a-screenshot.org/ http://imageshack.us/ . Sarkut
If there is a Direct Link showing on the left near the bottom,right-click the words Direct Link, copy link location, paste into the forum post. Internet Explorer's right-click will say Copy Shortcut. It varies with different browsers. Edited November 9, 2010 by Sarkut
