Option to disable colour subsampling?

Recommended Posts

When saving Jpegs with bright red in them somtimes this red colour becomes blurry. In Irfanview there is an option called disable color subsampling that resolves this issue? Would it be possible to have an option for this in Paint.net, or perhaps have it enabled at higher quality settings?

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Saved at 90% in Irfanview with disable color subsampling checked

Saved in Paint.net at 90% (Note the quality of the red text is horrible)

Here's a picture of the option in Irfanview.

My question is, have you ever tried to save your image file as PNG? I prefer it over JPEG since it's a lossy file, whereupon PNG is a lossless file.

I realise PNG would get around this issue, but it still doesn't change the fact that another image viewer has options that fix this problem with JPEG's and Paint.net doesn't

90% in IrfanView is not necessarily the same as 90% in PDN. Can you compare the sizes of the both images? Other than that, try saving at 100%, or in .png (really, jpeg sucks for text).

Other than that, have a read here: http://forums.getpai...showtopic=15554

This problem happens regardless of quality setting, even at 100% in PDN it still causes this issue. It's due to Chroma Subsampling. Photoshot and Irfanview allow this to be disabled, PDN doesn't, I'd like the option to disable it.

If Paint.NET ever gets a settings dialog as blindingly horrific as that, I will quit Paint.NET and this forum forever.

It sounds like you prefer IrfanView's JPG algorithm over Paint.NET's. So IrfanView for saving JPGs...
