Frugalfart
Maybe I'm thick but I'm having a terrible time trying to merge together 2 photos. I have read different forum postings on this and searched Google. Basically I understand I'm suppose to open one photo and then paste another photo on top of it. However I can copy the second photo but paint will not give me the option to paste it on top of the first one. I was able to paste it to another layer but I still could not merge the two together. HELP!!
Sarkut
After you paste into a new layer, use: Image > Flatten or Layers > Merge Layer Down ====================================== Perhaps the problem is something else. Could you post links to the two images that you are trying to merge along with some additional explanation. Frugalfart
When I do that I end up with only one of the images. They do not seem to be overlaid on each other....
Sarkut
I think that the problem is that it is unclear what you mean when you use the word "merge". Merge has a specific jargon meaning for Paint.NET users, however I think you mean something else. Try this: Paste your second image into a new layer above the first image. Press F4. In Layers Properties move the Opacity slider to 128. Is this the effect you want?
Frugalfart
Yes, that is exactly what I was looking for. So what is merge used for then?
Sarkut
There are some layer handling definitions here: http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/LayersWindow.html The end result is one fewer layers in the .pdn file. Edit: Link fixed. . Edited November 2, 2010 by Sarkut
Frugalfart
Try that URL one more time. It seems to have gotten shortened and unusable.
Sarkut
http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/LayersWindow.html I thought that had been fixed, but, no. Edited November 2, 2010 by Sarkut

Sarkut
No worries. It's a problem with all three of these: Edit: tinyurl links removed, no longer needed. If you'd like to have working links to bookmark for forum use, click the Reply button at the bottom of this post and copy out the tinyurl variants.
