App-V Sequencing problem

Recommended Posts

First of all I hope is the right section.

I'm trying to sequence Paint.NET 3.5.5 for Win7.

Everything looks working but if I try to use the "writing" tool on the target machine (installed by the msi created from the sequencer) I get the error message "There was an unhandled error and Paint.Net must be closed".

I have also the pdncrash.log created and I can post it if it can help.

I'm using the latest sequencer and client version available of App-V.

If I try to create the msi from the installer (followint this instruction http://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/en/UnattendedInstallation.html) I'm getting the same error on the sequencing machine during the test phase of the package.

I also tried to remove some exclusion path in the configuration of the sequencer (it helped me sometimes, like for Autodesk sw) but it didn't help.

I tried also to disable the DirectWrite using the switch /disableDirectWrite modifing the shortcut during the sequencing machine without effect.

I also tried to "sequence" the "portable" version of Paint.Net but when I create the package of the working installation I get the same error...

Anyone has been able to sequence it?

I've having the same problem. I have been using PDN for probably about four years now and love it. I have PSP, but rarely use it. I updated to the v3.5.5 and it installed and it worked perfectly until I tried to use the text tool. Then I started getting the same error message. I have tried everything I've read in the forums and nothing works. I have un-installed the newest version and reinstalled several of the older versions, and the older versions work until you go to the text tool then I get the error. I downloaded the Microsoft Utility Cleanup program and ran that to make sure everything with PDN was gone before re-installing it, and again works great until I use the text tool. I went back to a restore point prior to the update and it still mucks up when you use the text tool. I emailed several of the PDN Crashlog reports. This is occurring on my laptop which is a Toshiba running Vista Home Premium SP2, 3.00 GB of memory. Now on my desktop, I installed the v3.5.5. My desktop is a HP, Vista Home Premium SP2, with 1.00 GB of memory. Everything works perfect on my desktop. I am lost and don't know what else to try.

Barbara Mc,

As a starting point, reinstall Paint.NET v3.5.5.

If the problem persists, create a new topic describing the problem

and with a crash.log generated by v3.5.5.

The crash.log you've posted is from v3.5.3.

Your situation is similar, but not identical, to the topic of this thread.

Oooops. sorry. I have un-installed and re-installed and tried so many versions I goofed and forgot I had tried that version. Thank you.

*shrug* I don't know.

Paint.NET hasn't been written or tested with App-V in mind. You should probably ask Aaron Parker, or the authors of App-V (Microsoft), for assistance.

I've having the same problem.

Your problem is not actually the same.

Well it's giving an error of FileNotFound when trying to initialize DirectWrite.

My psychic powers tell me it's having trouble locating dwrite.dll or one of its dependencies.

(Which of course doesn't make sense because I can clearly see dwrite.dll in the list of native modules in the crash log.)

From inspecting the source code, looks like the only possible failure point resulting in that specific error is a call to GetProcAddress(). Maybe you've got a virtualized dwrite.dll that doesn't include the DWriteCreateFactory export. </guess>
