DonTomika
Hi! I wanted to install PdN 2.72 but it said: "Paint.NET requires Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP SP2, ..." I have Windows XP SP1 installed, and I don't want to install SP2. Previously I used PdN 2.63 without any problems. Is there any way to install PdN 2.72, or I must install XPSP2? Rick Brewster
If you don't want to install SP2, then you may not install Paint.NET v2.72. Simple as that. DonTomika
OK. Thanks Oh, by the way. I have 128 MB of RAM. If I install the Service Pack 2, I will be able to install the PdN v2.72, or the setup program will give me a second error message?
Rick Brewster
Paint.NET doesn't run reliably with 128 MB RAM anyway. I'd suggest upgrading to a minimum of 512 MB for all computing purposes. DonTomika
Yes, I see, but I don't want to use the latest version of Paint.NET in everydays, I only want to install it to update the Hungarian Language file. When I will finish this job, I will install an older version of PdN. But my problem has solved, because yesterday I modified and then recompiled the source code of SetupFrontEnd, and now I can install PdN v2.72. Ps: Sometime in the future I will buy more RAM, but not tomorrow or after tomorrow.
megalithic
Hello, I'm new to Paint.NET. I've just installed .NET 2 to run be able to run Paint.NET and am now being told I need XP SP2 (contrary to what's written on the download page). I am in a corporate environment so can't 'just' install SP2 at the moment. I'd like to try it out. I see in the forum and notes that V2.64 worked with SP1. Can you point me towards somewhere I can download V2.64 please, as I'm currently not able to use your program. I've been reading through the forum, fair enough about not supporting 98/Me/2000 but there are loads of people stuck without SP2. Thanks Andy
Rick Brewster
The download page states XP SP2. http://www.getpaint.net/download.html We do not make previous versions available for download. This has been discussed in depth before, and the system requirements will not be changed. megalithic
I'm not asking you to change the system requirements, I respect the reasons you've stated for progressing on with SP2. I would just like access to a version I can use please. I've found an old version here, http://www.oldapps.com/old_version_PainDotNet.php Paint.NET 2.64 (3 MB) http://www.oldapps.com/download.php?fil ... t_2_64.exe Would someone mind running an MD5 on it to make sure it's a legit version. As I say I'm in a corporate environment and don't want to download something that might not be from a legitimate source. I would have thought making an SP1 version available for people to try is reasonable. Unless there's some sort of agenda or hidden problem with 2.64 that I'm not aware of? Thanks

Thanks I suggest you not to download any old version at all, because it isn't allowed by rick, therefore not supported by rick, and it might contain spyware or viruses. megalithic
...hence asking for an MD5 to check it tallies with a legit version of 2.64 that some of you must still have access to.
Rick Brewster
trickman, I've never said it wasn't allowed. That would be awfully weird of me to restrict what people can or can't download. I simply can't provide any help at all for older versionf os Paint.NET -- my time is just too limited to be able to do this. megalithic, The file should be digitally signed. If it's signed by me (it'll say Eric though, not Rick) and the signature validates, then it's legit and you can rest assured it has not been tampered with at all. megalithic
OK, thanks for your advice on the install file, that's a very clever feature. Good luck with the rest of the project, I'll try the latest one at home on SP2 too. I've given you a quick review and recommendation on my site here: http://www.megalithic.co.uk/modules.php ... 51&forum=5 Cheers Andy
