Merge layers.

Here's a quick way to work out the shadow placement:

Draw an imaginary line through the approximate centre of the sphere and brightest spot on the outside of the sphere. It's on this line that the shadow should be centred.

For your image, the line is almost at 45 degrees (highlight is just below the nose) through the sphere centre. So your shadow is cast too low for the given highlight.

@xmario: Nice easy tut with concise, clear steps. Well done.

nice. I'm Russian so I read the Russian description : )

but it really has a nice outcome, but the actual smile

seems a bit off, probably because his eyes are closed..

Alex979,

There's a step missing.

Magic Wand the alpha on the eyes and smile layer,

then make a new layer and apply the Bevel Selection effect.

Then erase around the canvas edges.

Cool tut. :D It's hard to find a simple yet entertaining walk-through nowadays. This one i simple & unique.

Here's my try:

I tried zoning out a square selection & using the eclipse circle drawing tool to make a perfect circle for the mouth, but I forgot that I'd left the mode to fill, but I liked the outcome, so I kept it.

You draw a line, then you select it by some way

I don't select lines! fool.gif I select free area around the lines. I select all free space on the layer, but not the lines... bu.gif
