Close, then re-open Paint.NET.

======================

Look here:

Utilities > View Plugin Load Errors

If any error reports are present, pls. post them.

======================

Also, open your Paint.NET Effects folder, and make a full screenshot.

It should show the contents of the folder and the full folder path in the address field.

Post the Direct Link, or thumbnail.

Based on the icons shown with the plugin DLLs it is clear that

the default .dll file association on your system is now Paint.NET.

This is not normal.

If your OS is Vista, you may want to restore the

correct .dll file association as outlined in this tutorial:

Thank you sooooo much!! Your suggestions worked wonders and are greatly appreciated!

Hello dear Paint.NET crowd. I absolutely love the Paint.NET and appreciate this amazing open source very much.

I have been trying all day to install two much needed plugins and it put my to tears. I really wish i could do it finally. (I have been trying to install the two plugins on my desk-top (Vista) and notebook (Windows7) and got the same result).

When i click <save> in the File Download i get Adobe Reader note, saying: "Adobe Reader could not open "Oblique[1].zip" because it's either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."

What can be done about that?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

If your system's file association for .zip has changed to Adobe Reader,

you may want to restore it to the default using this tutorial:

(For Vista)

(For Windows 7)

With Paint.NET closed, click with the right mouse button on the Paint.NET desktop shortcut.

Then click Open file location .

Then double-click the folder that is named Effects.

The effects plugin files live in that folder.

I'm having a problem with Cookies' Lightning Plugin.

I just clicked to 'Open' the file, as I always do. After that, this appears:

lightningpluginproblems.png.

Yeah, sure. I'm not computer-y enough to make sense of this. It's even more confusing that I didn't do anything that I wouldn't normally do when installing Plugins. I have downloaded some before, and they work perfect; I don't know why this one is giving me problems. I'm especially disappointed and more confused, since it worked fine on the previous computer I downloaded it on, where it worked totally fine. That was a Windows XP, and I'm sure my new Windsows 7 should be able to do it, too... This plugins is too awesome for me to not do anything about it, help please?

*Yes, this is my first post. I hope I didn't screw up (too much) already. /=|

Luckily I'm not too new to Paint.NET, I'm having a great time with it!

For plugins packed in a zip, the zipfile may be opened as a first step towards installing.

The Lightning plugin download is a DLL file. It shouldn't be opened.

Allow the file to download, then copy/paste it into the Effects folder.

Meh... Indeed, it works... [Facepalm]

I do recall there was a moment where I downloaded a DLL instead of a zip, and thus did a different thing, allowing the Plugin to be installed. It must have been on the previous computer, since it worked there. I must have overlooked it this time; apparently te symbols of different file types aren't as distinctive, and it was less obvious that this was a DLL rather than the other. This resulted in me trying to fit a square into a circle shaped hole, while not seeing that I am, in fact, holding a square, and not a circle-shaped object. *Gasp* a flaw in the design of Windows 7 (well, not so much a flaw as me being stupid).

Thank you very much, for clearing this out.

Hey. I'm having trouble getting the plugins i download to work in paint.NET. I followed the steps perfectly and for some reason, when I open Paint.NET the plugins aren't there. Help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Which plugins specifically are you trying to install?

Pyrochild plugins. I downloaded the entire package, so I even have that file that I need. I think it's called "pyrochild.required.dll" I tried placing taht file in the Effects and Filetypes folders, but neither of them work. I put all of the effects into the effects folder.
