Getting rid of bright lighting in a photo?

There is a lot of lighting on the ship. I am trying to turn this into a night scene, so I need to remove the unecessary lighting on the ship. Does anyone have any techniques I could use to get rid of this lighting?

Although the clouds are still a problem.

I had a quick play with this.

1. Duplicate layer

On upper layer

2. Invert colors

3. Blend mode = multiply & Opacity 110

On lower layer

4. Brightness & Contrast (-88 & 60 respectively)

Result:
