Today, we're going to make something similar to this ...

N.jpg

Ok, first, your going to want to make a bunch of random lines like so ..

ex1.jpg

Use a size 2 line tool. Just be yourself with it. Go crazy. Feel free to add some pencil and change the line size/color is you want to experiment.

Next, invert colors. (Adjustmets> Invert Colors (Pretty self explanitory))

Then, make a glow with these settings (Again, feel free to experiment)

ex2.jpg

Then make a new layer :AddNewLayer:

Change the blending mode on the new layer to "Reflect"

Then, pick a primary and secondary color of your liking (I chose green and red) and make a gradient.

ex3.jpg

I used radial. It doesnt matter what you use. Make it what you like.

Then chose a blending mode where there is no backround color (I chose "Overlay")

ex4.jpg

Then, you can mess around with Hue/Saturation and your done!

(I chose "Fade vertical" to give it a rainbow look)

ex5.jpg

EDIT: Merge the layer down and then duplicate it. Make a gaussian blur of about 14, then set the blending mode to Color Dodge. This will give it a cool webbed effect

ex6.jpg

Theres your finished product! You now have a cool sig backround or wallpaper. Have fun with this!

Feedback on that sig please.

Check out all my sigs here.

Told you everything loud and clear, but nobody's listening.

I would use the random lines plugin

This is my first time to this site as I only just downloaded Paint.net. I don't believe this is a Newbie Tutorial for the following reasons...

You haven't explained HOW TO make a glow; change blending modes, pick primary and secondary colours, fade vertical or merge and duplicate.

I got lost at Step 2 and couldn't go any further. Shame - I actually liked this effect :cry:

I am looking for simple newbie tuts, please PM me some cool text effects in simple plain English ^.^

nell68crab,

Access the Glow Effect from the top menu:

Effects > Photo > Glow

================================

Changing blending modes:

Layers Window

Layers and Blend Modes

================================================

Pick Primary and Secondary colors:

Colors Window

================================================

Merge and Duplicate Layers:

Layers Window

=================================================

Conditional Hue/Saturation is part of Evan's Effects:

Evan's Effects

After the plugin has been installed, it can be accessed this way:

Adjustments > Conditional Hue/Saturation

=================================================

Download the plugin file, then copy/paste it (EOEffects.dll)

into your Program Files/Paint.NET/Effects folder.

Best to do this while Paint.NET is closed.

=================================================

This shows the settings to change from default for a Vertical Fade:

You can reach the Help file from Paint.NET, when connected to the Internet,

by pressing F1 on your keyboard.

I think this is a nice tutorial but found it quite hard to go as not having much knowledge on paint.net.I am happy atleast I tried this and finally finished up with this effect.This effect really looks cool and now I am going to try out new things with this effect.

The user who wrote this hasn't been online since the forum move almost five years ago.  I doubt he'll be back.

Agreed, it's of no use now.  Locked.

Incidentally, this really probably shouldn't have been a tutorial in the first place.  It's something that can really be accomplished by using the random lines plugin and playing around with effects (which means that it breaks a tutorial publishing rule).  I'd recommend playing around with it yourself and seeing what cool things you can come up with!

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.
