Torndragon
Before I start on my problems, I'd like to say I adore Paint.net to the extent I use it in my art work etc and I perfer it over programs such as fire works. Anyway.. I've been using Paint.net for over a year now. But I was using it this morning, and after about a minute of me setting it up a message came up complaining about some handling problem, so I was like Meh, I'll just reinstall it. Being rash and idiotic, I simiply deleted the folder which my Paint.net was contained in because I couldn't see an uninstall button so and I just completely forgot about Add/Remove Programs. But now, when I try to install the latest version of Paint.net, I get this: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.IO.IOException: The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable. at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError(Int32 errorCode, String maybeFullPath) at System.IO.Directory.InternalGetFileDirectoryNames(String path, String userPathOriginal, String searchPattern, Boolean includeFiles, Boolean includeDirs, SearchOption searchOption) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern, SearchOption searchOption) at System.IO.Directory.GetFiles(String path, String searchPattern) at PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.FileSystem..cctor() ************** Loaded Assemblies ************** mscorlib Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3082 (QFE.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///c:/WINDOWS/Microsoft.NET/Framework/v2.0.50727/mscorlib.dll ---------------------------------------- SetupFrontEnd Assembly Version: 3.36.3158.38067 Win32 Version: 3.36.3158.38067 CodeBase: file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/PdnSetup/SetupFrontEnd.exe ---------------------------------------- System.Windows.Forms Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Windows.Forms/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.Windows.Forms.dll ---------------------------------------- System Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System/2.0.0.0__b77a5c561934e089/System.dll ---------------------------------------- System.Drawing Assembly Version: 2.0.0.0 Win32 Version: 2.0.50727.3053 (netfxsp.050727-3000) CodeBase: file:///C:/WINDOWS/assembly/GAC_MSIL/System.Drawing/2.0.0.0__b03f5f7f11d50a3a/System.Drawing.dll ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.SystemLayer Assembly Version: 3.36.3158.38062 Win32 Version: 3.36.3158.38062 CodeBase: file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.SystemLayer.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Base Assembly Version: 3.36.3158.38062 Win32 Version: 3.36.3158.38062 CodeBase: file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Base.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Resources Assembly Version: 3.36.3158.38063 Win32 Version: 3.36.3158.38063 CodeBase: file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Resources.DLL ---------------------------------------- PaintDotNet.Core Assembly Version: 3.36.3158.38063 Win32 Version: 3.36.3158.38063 CodeBase: file:///C:/DOCUME~1/User/LOCALS~1/Temp/PdnSetup/PaintDotNet.Core.DLL ---------------------------------------- ************** JIT Debugging ************** To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this application or computer (machine.config) must have the jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section. Which I can't make heads or tails of since I'm 16, and have no knowledge of such things. I was looking across the net for a fix, and I came across the main problems sorter on this site. I know getting a new version won't help, since I'm using the latest. I know a Mircosoft clean up thing won't work, since my deleting of the old Paint.net means I can't find anything to pick up. So I can't see a way around it >.> I'm in need a really help because I go back to Collage in 4 days and I really could do with Paint.net's help with my coursework. Also, I use it for slightly more immature uses since, really, I'm still a small boy playing Pokemon This is examples out what I've been using Paint.net for as well: http://ssf2expansion.yforum.biz/art-f36/torndragon-sprite-age-t5664.htm
Rick Brewster
The exception says, "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable." I'd say run chkdsk. Your hard drive may be corrupted. Sarkut
Torndragon: In case running chkdsk doesn't help. (Try chkdsk first). From what you have posted, it sounds like you haven't tried the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. http://support.microsoft.com/default.as ... -us;290301
Torndragon
The exception says, "The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable."I'd say run chkdsk. Your hard drive may be corrupted. That appears to have sorted everything, I'm very thankful for both of your help. Paint.net is a pleasure to work with and I find it very reliable and impressive. I plan to be using it for a long time. And, again, I'm very grateful.
