As part of the marketing campaign, Microsoft is using social networking website HouseParty to get participants to host Windows 7 Launch Parties between 22 to 29 October 2009, with hosts receiving a free full copy of Windows 7 Signature Edition (both 32 & 64 bit), along with a box of party items (such as a deck of cards, tote bags, and other promotional items).

The package contains 2 DVDs, one 32-bit and one 64-bit along with a CD key that will work with either version. The DVD is clearly marked Windows 7 Ultimate (32/64) Signature Edition. The package that the 32-bit DVD came in is black with Steve Ballmer's signature on the bottom.

Both DVDs and the DVD package are clearly marked NOT FOR RESALE. And the license is for a single machine.

Wouldn't it be funny if you broke into Bill Gate's house and found an iMac in his room?

He didn't drop Windows 2000 support for about five years after XP launched.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

I've been watching the computor advertisments from bestbuy and staples. I finally noticed that there is a preorder available for window 7. My next computor will have windows 7. Most likely another 1/2 year or so before I make a purchase. It all depends on how many coins there are in the piggy bank and how long this old faithful keeps on chugging along.

ciao

I really hope I can upgrade this weekend. If I do get it this weekend. I'm not sure how long the free upgrades take to ship. :|

I think that Paint.NET is the only reason I even stick with Windows instead of Ubuntu (since Gimp sucks so bad). In fact, because of Paint.NET is the only reason I'm even thinking of upgrading (from XP on my laptop and Vista on my main desktop).

Every other program I run regularly has a Linux analog.

Only Linux or 7 will fully exploit my hardware -- although my laptop will be incapable of running Aero.

I wonder if corporations will give a pass to 7 like they did with Vista or what. I guess that XP is getting a bit long in the tooth.

Heh -- I swore I'd never upgrade to XP and then I did when I bought a laptop with XP on it (after Vista came out) and then I swore I'd never get Vista until my last desktop came with it.
