Every forum I`ve visited has an off topic section for people to have a chat about things. Personally I very rarely use the Alfredo and would not stop coming just because it was removed. There are others who do rely on it though, and for that reason I would still keep it.

Isn#t the point of this forum PDN, tutorial, plugins, and showing off your stuff?

Yes, yes, yes, and no.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

1) The Alfredo was here before the Pictorium.

not sure that's correct

I recall the pictorium was here when I joined. it was one of the big reasons I downloaded this program to start with. I also remember the off topic started up after I was here as there were a lot of forum topics getting off tangent in general discussion area.

I might be incorrect but I really don't recall any off topic area from before 2007.

viewtopic.php?f=17&t=4577&start=0 < I beleive first post of off topic thread. because too much coming up in general discussion area. may 05 2007

viewtopic.php?f=26&t=1072 old pictorium mar 05 2006 unfortunate many of the old old pictures are no longer there as people drifted away to other programs and deleted the items from their photobucket accounts. but 916 pages of old pictorium and a great community atmosphere to boot.

The Pictorium came on the scene in March of 2006. The Overflow reared its ugly head that following September. So, Oma, neither of us remember it, but you're right. :-)

1) Please remove the font size tags from your post.

2) I meant that if the Pictorium isn't active enough anymore (arguable, but that's not the point), it's because people - including me - aren't creating. The Alfredo was already here before, it's not the reason why the Pictorium is inactive.

Can someone tell me why the name was change to "The Alfredo?" I wasn't around when this happened. :)

It was an April Fool's joke, and it was only supposed to be for that day, but people liked it, so we never changed it back.

Wow.

Yeah, no. The Alfredo isn't the reason why I don't have much time for hobby art these days...

If people feel like chatting, they'll chat; if people feel like making art, they'll make art. If people feel like chatting, removing the chat section of the forum isn't going to make them make art, it's just going to make them go elsewhere to chat. The relationship is circumstantial, not causal.

I know the stuff I create when I feel like creating something is a thousand times better than the stuff I have to force myself to sit down and do - we shouldn't be forcing people's hands by blocking out non-art related options. This section may not be art-focused, but it helps build community, and I believe people tend to be more willing to present their art and more inclined to take criticism to heart when it comes from people they know instead of a room full of strangers.

So no, I wouldn't. Where else would one discuss Mountain Dew vs. Mellow Yellow? ;)
