serenbren
For some reason Paint.Net is now automatically altering my photos as soon as it opens them. The pictures are dramatically brightened and grainy (and ruined), this is not happening with any other editing software. It seems to have started doing this really suddenly and I don't know why. I don't think I changed any settings or anything like that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Simon Brown
Which format are they in?
serenbren
It does it with both Jpeg and RAW files.
Simon Brown
Could you copy one of the photos and open the copy with PDN and then upload both for comparison?
serenbren
Attached are the two versions for comparison. Paint.Net is the lighter one - it's never altered things of its own accord before.
Simon Brown
So it didn't actually change the file?
serenbren
My mistake, it's only happening when opening RAW files not jpegs. I've never had this happen before though. Any ideas what's happening?
serenbren
Sorry, not sure what you mean? I opened the RAW file in my other editing programmes (Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop) and it looked exactly as it did on my camera. I opened the RAW file in Paint.Net and it was automatically brightened and grainy. I had to save both as jpegs to attach them here.
Simon Brown
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_image_format I'm guessing the RAW plugin simply has a different way of interpreting the raw data. There are at least three RAW plugins, so try a different one.
