Confidence

Recommended Posts

hey guys,

i was just wondering if you guys had any tips on how to be more confident around people, making speeches, starting conversations, and all that kind of stuff. it's not for any particular reason, i just reckon a bit of confidence would do me some good, and im looking for ways to improve that. any tips would be appreciated.

thanks in advance,

caz.

You should get the Win7 theme for XP. Then get the rest of Win7. Then uninstall XP. Then it'll really look nice. ~ David Atwell

Knowledge.... the more you learn, the less likely you will make a fool of yourself.

Start small.... if you are not comfortable in front of many people, start from small groups.

Listen to what others have to say... Some times it's not always about starting conversations. Good listener are very welcome among friends. (Really listen, not zone out)

Be mature.... know when to be serious and when to joke.

A funny one... hang out with people who have less confidence than yourself... :P (No, this wouldn't really help)

I'll add more if I remember more.

It is logical that you want to increase your confidence, but know this: speaking in public is more feared then death, speaking in public is the most feared thing, death comes in as number 7!

I would suggest try talking to people you don't know very well, get more familiar with other people and maybe read a couple of books about verbal and non-verbal communication. Also if you're nervous, hide it, when people notice you're a bit nervous they will focus on that and forget what you have to say.

A few tips:

When speaking let people see your hands.

When speaking don't form any barrier before your body, when you do this you will look more defensive and closed.

When speaking before an audiencekeep your head straight, if you don't do this, your neck is exposed making you vunerable and less convincing, when listening in a small group you can expose your neck, this is a sign of trust and apreciated.

When speaking make sure that people can hear you.

Always smile, when doing this make sure your teeth can be seen, otherwise your smile says: "I know something you don't know and I'm not going to tell you."

Maybe change your look?

Also try stepping out of your comfort zone more often, this will improve your confidence, especially when the result is good.

Ask a friend what (s)he thinks about you and what you can improve about yourself.

Be yourself. If you try to change who you are you become less comfortable with yourself and the environment you are in. As long as you are yourself, shy or not, you should be fine.

Ash hit it right on.

Just wondering, is it like with women? I myself am kinda crappy at just casually getting a chicks # or something. :?
