Video Gaming Thread

This is probably a far stretch for most video gamers...

Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver was just released in Japan a few weeks ago. And from everything I've read about it...well, I have to say that this is the most excited I've ever been for a Pokemon game in the past ten years. IMO, it's a mishmash of qualities from every generation, it's got the most replayability to date (thanks to the inclusion of every generations' legendaries and starters among other factors) and actual fan service (not that kind of fanservice :P ) that would appeal to the older generation that played the original Gold and Silver ten years ago.

I gave up on the Pokemon franchise years ago. Around the time Emerald got released (good thing I did too. Diamond and Pearl just seemed ridiculous from what I played of it) as it just seemed far too overrated and repetitive. And what's it up to now? 450? The term "Gotta Catch 'em All" just seemed impossible with the separation of the second generation.

But hey, I'm picking up HG/SS for the nostalgia factor. I loved Gold back when I was only a kid, and I'm really impressed with what they've done and am willing to try to give Pokemon one last chance. Then I'm gonna shut the door on the franchise. They better stop while they're ahead, before they inflate the franchise with 1000+

Yeah, long post. I'm probably the only 17 yr. old in the local area that's willing to give Pokemon another go

Ha ha... pokemanz. For some reason, when I downloaded my Visual Boy Advance gameboy emulator, it came with every gameboy and GBA pokemon game, which is funny, because I really only wanted VBA to play Advance Wars (the best GBA game, period).

So I still fire 'em up from time to time, when I'm bored.

Haha, I just got that a little while back too, Sozo. I've been messing around with Pokemon - good times, good times... :P

One thing I've never understood about the franchise is the lack of diversity. I mean, almost every game is essentially the same deal - it feels like a EA or 2K Games sport series.

Oh well, still had a good time playing those games half a lifetime ago.

_____

Oh - and the the AC2 discussion - definitely looking forward to that game - nothing like a 15th century Italian Assassination Emulation :P

Many gamers who don't own a 360 have this misconception that Xbox Live is horribly over priced, and that an Xbox Live truck comes to my house every week and takes my first born son away from me until I pay for it. That is simply not true! Payments are extremely easy, and for many is a once a year thing. As well, if you ever need to stop paying it is also very easy to downgrade your account to Silver and not have to pay for a while.

LMAO!!!!

well if your considering spending a lot of money on the console - the ps3 is for you

if you dont want to spend so much - xbox 360

ps3 has web browser (not very good one though) and blu ray (very good) although it is harder to set up the network it is free. Whereas the xbox network - xbox live is not free

also in my opinion GH is better thank rockband but the xboxs controller is more comfortable in my opinion anyway its up to you!

Hey guys. I might be getting a PS3 soon. Do you think this will be a good way to start off:

PS3 Slim

Vertical Stand

Killzone 2

Metal Gear Solid 4

Socom: Confrontation (with bluetooth headset)

I'm basically getting Socom only for the headset and some of my friends have it. :D

I still don't get why people have to spend extra money on a stand. I mean, the original can do it, why does someone with the slimmer console have to throw an extra $24 (or however much it is) down just to prop it up? :?

...Darkshock, couldn't you make a DIY stand with cardboard or something just to save the money?

As for the games you've selected, nice choice. You'll certainly get a blast out of MGS4 (it plays more like a shooter than stealth, but that's cool) and Killzone 2 (which is a good shooter, story mode was average length, maybe a bit short but I was a bit upset with the noob-y attack pattern of the final fight). Socom: Confrontation... most of my friends didn't like. Never had a chance to ask why.

I just really don't mind squeezing out another $25 to get the stand. I just want to have it vertical because of my entertainment set up. I would of had all three current systems, but I sold the Wii a year ago.

Well, I don't yet own a PS3 myself - I'm planning on making the jump sometime before Modern Warfare 2 drops - but I've done a lot of gaming on a PS3 thanks to a few buddies of mine, and I've played all those games you've mentioned. Killzone 2 is awesome, and I only got to play the first hour or so of MGS4 (and yes, half of it was cutscene...), but it seemed right up my alley - in fact, I already have myself a copy of MGS4 patiently awaiting the purchase of the system. ;)

SOCOM: Confrontation was buggy and horrible - the in-match lag would cheat you out of kills, the game would freeze for up to a second when a new player joined an in-progress match, people could shoot through walls, sometimes you'd spawn without a gun, and out-of-map cheating was rampant. There have been a few patches since then that supposedly address many of those problems, but my circle of friends gave up on the game long ago - considering the fact that they were both huge SOCOM fans that spent full-price for the game on launch day only to receive a copy that didn't come with half the stuff listed on the back of the box, I don't blame them. No, we're all holding out for MAG. :D

The included headset, however, is worth every penny.

BioShock 2 has been dated. Mark your calendars for February 9, 2010! :D

The multiplayer looks TERRIBLE.

MW2 is less than 2 months away.OMGOMGOMG

Yeah, it looks like another game that has multiplayer thrown in just so people will play it a little more. Sad...

^ I went out and pre-ordered Gran Turismo PSP from GameStop tonight, and I saw a few people in there pre-ordering ODST, last-minute style.

Also, may I add GiantBomb: 4/5 stars to that list up there. GiantBomb.com is the best gaming website ever. ;)

As far as GTPSP, I pre-ordered it from GameStop mainly because of the Bugatti Veyron offer. The reviews for it have been lackluster thus far, but the things they're complaining about are things I don't care about. Finally, I will be able to have Nürburgring, Autumn Ring, Midfield, Deep Forest, Trial Mountain... and take them with me wherever. :D

Now, if only they'd bring back Grindelwald... :(

Polyphony is a Sony-owned studio, so Gran Turismo is Playstation-exclusive.

Gran Turismo: PS1

Gran Turismo 2: PS1

Gran Turismo 3: PS2

Gran Turismo 4: PS2

Gran Turismo 5 / Prologue:PS3

And yes, cazaron, Grindelwald's first and last appearance was in Gran Turismo 2. :(
