removing blur when rotating scanned documents

Recommended Posts

I use paint.net to clean up older documents that were scanned in (I don't have the originals) and becuase they weren't scanned in straight, I usually have to rotate them up to 1 degree. When I rotate the image, the text becomes blurry. Is there any way to work around that?

not possible. PDN is a raster image editor and not a vector one. the document you scanned is made up of pixels so you're likely to get some blur when rotating.

you could try re-typing the document after rotating, if the document isn't handwritten.

If you're using the Move Selected Pixels tool, or Layers->Rotate/Zoom, they are using bilinear resampling.

Long story short, you may get better results by first resizing the image to be larger (Image->Resize) by 2x, then rotating, then shrinking back to the original size. Then, you may also use Effects->Photo-Sharpen with a value of 1, if that helps.
