Pebal
This is a smart sharpening plugin. I applied in the plugin adaptive algorithm, which has been optimized for maximum reduction of halo effect. The plugin is dedicated to sharpening images after reduction size. It resides in the "Photo" submenu. ----------------------------------------------------------------- CHANGES ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.5.0 Reduced aliasing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.4.1 Fixed some errors in the algorithm. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.4.0 Reduced most of the generated noise. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.3.2 Increased efficiency of the algorithm. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.3.1 Reduced local contrast. Reduced aliasing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.3.0 Added subpixel LCD antialiasing. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.2.0 Reduced radius of the filter action. Eliminates halo effect. Gain better image sharpness. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.1.3 Added pixel brightness control. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.1.2 Removed a bug that generates noise. ----------------------------------------------------------------- version 1.1.1 Removed a bug that generates artifact. ----------------------------------------------------------------- SmartSharpen.zip

Pebal
Yet another example of sharpening. A link to the original image: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wheatfields/846544785/sizes/o/ Comments welcome.
Blooper
Sounds good, but it seems you get an effect somewhat similar to median blur. It looks less realistic and more like a painting [Edit] Might still be appropriate sometimes though, I haven't tested it out. Pebal
Sounds good, but it seems you get an effect somewhat similar to median blur. It looks less realistic and more like a painting Less realistic image is due to the aliasing, which on a low-resolution display is highly visible. Without the aliasing can not be strengthened many small details and it is impossible to eliminate the halo effect.
Blooper
Alright. Thanks, it looks like at small amounts, it's not a problem. Pebal
What could be further improved?
Blooper
Apart for the fact that it seems to make things somewhat geometric (did you fix that in 1.5 or was that before I posted?), I see nothing wrong.
