Well i found this interactive game on youtube and you have to hold ur breath until you give up:

Please,PLEASE don't hurt yourself by doing this...common sense.

Post your times here, my record is like about 70 secs, good for a 12 yr old =).

Got up to about 1 minute 20 before, couldn't today D: Oh, the video wouldn't work for me. Correct link, just went :X

Also, the poll is probably going to be removed... Read the rules to find out why.

I wouldn't classify it as any more useless than, say, the age poll given the purpose of the thread. Just my 20p, though.

Held on to the end of the video - thats 122 seconds. Tried again with watch and got 165 seconds. Not bad for a bone idle adult. As a kid I could do 180, but I used to do a lot of underwater stuff back then.

I can hold it 1 minute easily, I can go past 81 seconds if I try hard enough.

Singing ftw.

Amen.

I believe it is physically impossible to kill yourself by holding your breath, without any obstructions to your mouth and/or nose.

Science agrees. Assuming you can even starve your brain of oxygen long enough to lose consciousness, you will eventually pass out. As soon as you pass out from oxygen deprivation, your reflex kicks in, opens your mouth, and starts flexing your diaphragm.

Again, that's assuming you can even get to that point. Most people can't.

There is also to say that with good practice you can expand your capacity.

1st try - 83 secs

2nd try - 2 minutes exactly :P (I have a feeling I could have kept going for just a bit longer  as always..)

And, when we tested it during a class of biology, my lungs are ~5,7 litres 8)

EDIT:

A year ago I got exactly 60 secs by holding a stopwatch in front of my eyes and holding my breath; I was basically bursting when I let go! But now I can only get 40-50 secs. lol
