Goonfella
I`ve noticed recently that this forum has been getting lots of spam . It`s getting to be a real pain. Is there nothing that can be done to stop it? Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
Ouchy_S
Report it as soon as you see it. . . Really is the only way, unless we want to do a forensic investigation and find the source of it But that just costs too much and takes too much time. Goonfella
I do. There`s been more than usual recently though. Guess that just means more reporting. Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
david.atwell
What would you suggest? Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.Amy: But how did it end up in there? The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.
Goonfella
As Ouchy_S said, there`s not a lot that can be done. Unless there is a way to filter out the spam. Don`t really know how these things work. Quote Please feel free to visit my Gallery on PDNFans And my Alternatives to PDN
david.atwell
Not really. Not without filtering out the legit posts. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Simon Brown
If Forumer wasn't hosting it i'd suggest installing the Askimet mod.

Sozo
Lock up the forum (not posts) and keep any new members from joining for a few days, I say.
atypicalcarl
The only way is to have a moderator present at all times. A spammer can create a profile by hand, seem perfectly normal, then blast you. Simon Brown
My advice: Change the default membergroup to a new one that can't post directly (moderation queue) and move members who have posted without spamming over to the trusted group. Meanwhile ask Forumer to install the Akismet mod.
david.atwell
@Simon: I think that's something we might have to do. I'm suggesting it to the mod staff now. Sozo
I will say this: I'm glad the forum members are responding maturely to this latest spampage. Nobody posts in their threads or responds like they used to.
Rubrica
Sozo: By that, do you mean the sorts of conversations me and a few others had in the offtopic when Jonerongo hit? Also, what did I miss? What exactly happened?
becauseiwantedto
I will say this: I'm glad the forum members are responding maturely to this latest spampage. Nobody posts in their threads or responds like they used to. True, which is good as most of the time no one's on the other end of what the people say anyway to read the comments. The trusted user idea is very good though, but how would you decide how many posts is "posting much"? Quote Changed the text in the signature yay! PDN gallery! If you were responding to me, my suggestion was that everyone who has already registered be moved to the "trusted list" - or, more specifically, kept on it. oma
Simon you got the quote incorrect becauseiwantedto was responding to CommanderSozo asking how they would determine how many posts was enough. I was just warning becauseiwantedto it better not be on quality vs quantity. (ref to his yippeee I made 500 yippeeeee I made 600 posts....which I found hilarious) I will say this: I'm glad the forum members are responding maturely to this latest spampage. david.atwell
A whitelist isn't an option. We have to maintain an easy avenue of access for new users reporting bugs and requesting help. Goonfella
I think people are more aware of what can happen if you click on any of these spam links etc. You might end downloading nasties without even knowing it. Which is why I think it is so important that if something can be done , it is done. ( I think a few posts sneaked in there before me . I`ll have to type faster next time!) Simon Brown
My suggestion was to have a whitelist but enable mods to approve non-whitelisted posts.
atypicalcarl
I think people are more aware of what can happen if you click on any of these spam links etc. I accidentally clicked my own gallery once and got spammed by a bunch of crappy images.
