how can i add a shadow cast by the sun

how can i add a shadow to an image. the shadow needs to be as though it was cast by the sun. i have a photo with afternoon shadows in it, and when i add a new image to it i want to make the shadow look the same.

Try this. Pay no attention to the Google Maps stuff, the author was only making a point.

i tried the plugin, but it just seemed to cast a shadow of a box. can you help me along a bit. thanx if you can.

Is your image is box shaped? If so, try duplicating the layer, select the lower layer and then erase all the background leaving only the shape you want to have a shadow of. Apply the plugin to this layer.
