HELEN
Is there any way to restore a corrupt image in PDN? The thing is that I had an image saved, but then my computer stopped working and I shut it off. I went to open up the file and this message appeared, "The file is corrupt or was saved with a newer version of Paint.NET." I can still see the thumbnail, but I can't open it. Don't spit into the well, you might drink from it later. -----Yiddish ProverbGlossy Galaxy Ball---How to Make FoliageMy Gallery PDN Fans--My DA
Simon Brown
It probably depends whether it was saving when you turned it off.
HELEN
Yeah, it was saving. I probably can't retrieve it, right? HELEN
I tried attaching the .pdn file, but it says it's invalid. It's all right. I mean, I'm working on it all over again. I hope everything will be fine this time. I just wanted to see it it was retrievable. Mike Ryan
Well, I recovered it. But unfortunetly the recovered portions were to damaged for any good use. Sorry, Helen.
HELEN
Can I still see it? (I'm so distraught because of this deleted file. I worked so long on it.) Mike Ryan
I just deleted the file  All that was visible was around 25 layers of orange noise. I didn't think, in comparisson to the the thumbnail, that it was salvagable.
HELEN
No, that's fine. But I'm surprised you were able to open it. I'd give you an award for that if I could. Thanks to you and Simon for helping me out. Simon Brown
I'm guessing he did what I was thinking of doing: opening the file with a hex editor and making it a valid image.
Mike Ryan
Opened the file in Notepad++, took notes based on the image width and height including layer numbers, created a new Paint.NET File using the saved information then compared which parts were missing or corrupt in the original and replaced where needed. A very dirty process that could probably be better done by someone else. Edit: Simon got it right
HELEN
How do you know all that stuff? I wish I was taught useful information like that in college. Now I have to pay almost $20,000 in loans and I know nothing. I want my money back. usedHONDA
Too bad the corrupted file was .pdn. Elsewise, the file would've been easily recoverable by opening it in MS Paint (seriously, it works; just about the only thing the program is good for, too ) "The greatest thing about the Internet is that you can write anything you want and give it a false source." ~Ezra Pound twtr | dA | tmblr | yt | fb
Simon Brown
Although, in this case I *think* not all the image data was saved - not just a corruption of some metadata.
