livewrong811
In this thread I'd like to have a discussion about iPod type things. Mainly smart ones though; like ones with touch screens, apps available, etc. Typing tricks, must-have apps, and cool shortcuts are welcome. Also, the different types of these devices and their pros and cons is up for discussion. So I'll start: Typing Genius is a 99 cent iTouch app that gives you typing practice with the virtual keyboard. It also allows you to access a new keyboard of smileys, symbols, and other small pictures, viewable only on other iPod/Phones, AFAIK. It's worth the dollar, check it out. EDIT: Title changed to "Non-Cell Phone Mobile Device Discussion," post rewritten.

Blooper
Those things are a curse. People are playing with them in math class constantly and wondering why they get lame grades. Now I know, they're not intended for that use, and it's the user's fault, but still. livewrong811
Yeah, a ton of kids at my school got them for Christmas. Only one that I know of plays with it in school, and that's just in study hall.I think it's an amazing feat of technology, but whatever. Blooper
It's lame and really sad, they're always playing at lunch and in between classes. HITMAN-X-
Own a iPod. Want to replace it with a Cowon Q5W. When you do it out you pay more for an iPod over the time then you would for the Cowon Q5W. At least in my case that is ture with all the accessories. At least the Cowon Q5W comes with all accessories and a USB port, geez I can just use it Wi-Fi to connect to my computer and get music or video from that. Yup when my iPod dies, a Cowon Q5W will be my next investment. If I am not living in this town around then, then the GPS and longer lasting battery will come in handy. livewrong811
does anyone know of good quality, retractable earphones? I've seen a pair of Swiss ones, but just once. I'd reccomend learning to coil well instead. @Hitman: That's an interesting choice. Never heard of it, but it looks nice. The beauty of Apple in general though is that everything just "works." iTunes, iPod, iMac, the wireless router, MacBook, and even an iPhone--everything integrates wonderfully.Id stick with Apple if I were you. Their customer service is great, too.

It uses a windows OS and you don't need any 3rd party apps like iTunes to put music on it. You can do it all from the Cowon Q5W or from your computer. So you can hook up to your computer by Wi-Fi or USB and use the Cowon Q5W just as if you were in Windows Explorer to move music, video, pics and documents to and from your Cownon Q5W. Your walking down the street and hear a song playing somewere and want it. No problem, find a hotspot and use the Cowon Q5W internet to download the song or just go to youtube and listen to the song. Read a book on your Cowon Q5W using MS Office. Don't know were you are. No problem use the GPS. Someone sends you an awsome pic on your cell phone and you want to make it your Cowon Q5W background. Well just bluetooth to your cell phone using your Cowon Q5W. Save a DVD to it and then hook it up to your TV and sit back with the remote. Used up your 80GB, no problem you can just use the USB port to plug in things like hard drives, thumb drives ... ect. I owned a iPod since 2006 and a Cowon Q5W is the next step for people like. You read reviews and you will see that the people who move over to them are mostly iPod users who wanted more. My iPod been giving me problems for a year now and Apple support sucks. There $40 headphones don't last me a month yet a cheap $20 pair lasted me 4 months and had better volume. I hear Cowon support is not as bad as Apples. However updating the firmware sucks as there no auto update. You got to upload the firmware folder and then turn it off and then on so it just find it and then update to it. No when my iPod is dead and gone and I am looking for a new one. I will just pay $400 on a 60GB Cowon Q5W unless 80GB ones are cheaper by then. jake2k
Might as well chance the title of this thread to "media player talk" haha. I've been looking into getting an Archos myself or maybe I'll just get one of those little netbooks. I have a Zune right now and it works great but I could use more then 30 gigs plus I want to be able to surf the web. Crimson
Q5W is great, if you don't mind lugging around a mini-tablet. I can hold an iTouch in my hand while running in class, as opposed to a Q5W, which is quite heavy. The thing that I might replace an iTouch with is the new s9, which is basically an iTouch, slightly smaller, sans apps and internet browser. However, it does have a Flash player, so who knows what people might write for it? Plus, it has Cowon's legendary sound quality, supports all the sound formats, has Bluetooth, and has an OLED screen.  Quote Create A Professional-Looking Product Advertisment Mockup flickr | Deviant Art

livewrong811
OLEDs sound awesome. I've yet to see an OLED screen, but my dad told me a lot about them. Totally flat, low power draw, can cover walls, as I remember.
ncfan51
The Sasmung YP-P3 is the pwnerizer. It has a touchscreen, a Flash 8 Player, an FM tuner and recorder, and a sound quality that the iPod envies. The only thing it lacks is a web browser, and I don't really see the of point of having one in an mp3 player, but if you really want one, get the Archos 5 or Archos 7. The web browser beasts the iPhone's browser with an 800x600 resolution, and full flash support. Blooper
That is pretty bad, but it's their problem. Not everybody is like that, anyways. Relax a little bit? I'd say a good half of the people at my school who have them are in that mindset. And Crimson, we're talking about people that had mediocre grades already and that aren't doing any better now. Ya I can't find the part about it on NCIX but the Cowon does have am FM tuner as well as I seen a review were a guy was going through the touchscreen and showed how it works. The resolution is lower, its 800x400 so that to bad. It does support flash and has options for plugins. What i like to really try when I get one is setting up Skype on it as I use Skype as my home phone now. I am not sure if it can be done but I know that you can use the build in Mic to talk to people over MSN. Quote DEXTUT.COM
jake2k
The only thing about the Archos is you have to pay for each additional plugin :? Quote ^Click to visit my Flickr Gallery^
Crimson
The Archos isn't an mp3 player, it's a media tablet. It's meant more for watching videos, surfing the internet, that kind of thing. It's also about three times as expensive. as an iPod. Personally, I'd gather go the extra $300 and get myself a tablet PC. livewrong811
Yeah, personally, I like the limitations of the iPod. We've agreed to disagree (in a manner of speaking) on some things, like autocorrecting. If I could do that much on this tiny thing, I'd use it too much and never put it down. This way, I still need my computer. I hear you, Crimson; it's not that much difference in money for the amount of added functionality.
