Did it crash before showing the Open Dialog or after selecting a file?

when i click open it says an error has occured and that a log has been made.

He means were are you trying to save or open from when this error happens.

So you said you clicked open and it happen right away. What folder is it at when you clicked open.

If the folder has DivX files (Videos usually) then you may want to move them to another folder as DivX has been known to crash Paint.NET in the past.

You still never told us the folder your in. You may want to just try cleaning out that folder. Moving the content to another folder and then trying to open and save again. If the problems does not happen then you know one of the files within that folder is damaged.

oh my photos r in the 'My Pictures' folder

i also tried to unistall and re-install but when i reinstall, after i press 'I Agree' a message pops up saying

"Unhandled exeption has occured in a component in your application. If oyu press continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

If i press details it says

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that a file or directory on your system is corrupted and unreadable.
Looks like Paint.NET was trying to create a temporary file and couldn't because of some problem on your system. I would try clearing out your temp directory and see if that helps.

Run the Disk Cleanup utility that comes with Windows.

ok so i tried the disk clean up

it didnt work

so i ran ChkDsk

it didnt work

and ran them both again and it still doesnt work

i dont know what else to do

Can you browse to the folder you're saving into, with the explorer?

Are you logged in as an Administrator?

Go to the start menu, and in the search box type "%LOCALAPPDATA%" and press enter.

There will be a folder in there named Paint.NET.

Delete it.

If you can't delete it, then rename it.

It's not a search.

1. Press Windows key + R ("Run" dialog)

2. Type %LOCALAPPDATA% and then press OK

3. Find the Paint.NET folder

4. Rename/delete it.

If there is not Paint.NET folder at step 3, then your hard drive is corrupt. You'll have to go get it fixed. Paint.NET just can't work around a busted hard drive or corrupt file system.

a quick search for Paint.NET came up with a folder in the Local App folder and i renamed it liek you said

thx again guys

PDN Keeps crashing when i save, open or do anything else
