If you're looking for a really good compact digital, try the Panasonic Lumix TZ5

It's a fairly small camera with a brilliant Leica lens and a really rather large zoom (10x). It's never let me down.

I can recommend the Canon Powershot A590. It's easy to carry, takes wonderful pictures as well as really, really great movies (AVI and not the annoying MOV) and the batteries last for simply ages.

I know you said you know which one you're getting, but I'd recommend at least checking out a Sony Cuber-Shot DSC-H10.

It's a small, very affordable(It was around $275 US), has a 10x zoom, a somewhat wide lens. If it's not big enough, you can buy an upgrade(not a replacement, but an additional lens).

It has an excellent stock Macro(which can also be upgraded), has a ton of nice features, and if you want to record video, it records in 1080i hd.

It's an 8megapixel. It has a 9-point auto-focus...

And should you decide to do so, you can put music on it from your computer, and it plays music with slideshows on the camera itself.

This one am i going to buy :)

I asked a skilled photographer, and he said that one :)

Thank you for making the smartest move possible!

At the moment, the best beginner cameras are the Nikon D60, D60x, D70, D80, Cannon EOS Rebel XT, XTi, and XSi. The camera you chose is the best not only for the megapixels and price, but because of the image sensor, massive extendability, and (my personal favorite) the ability to hack Canon digital cameras to no end.
