Welcome to the 2008 Paint.NET Forum Awards Show! Where you decided the best of 2008, the worst of 2008, and everything in between!

Hi, I'm your host, BoltBait.

OK, let's dive right in to the first award for the evening...

The Mimi Bobeck Award:

This one's for the biggest forum troll of 2008 on the Paint.NET forum. As I'm sure you're aware, a forum troll is someone who posts a lot, and whose posts don't always have an overflow of useful content. Not to say that they never have relevant posts, but -- ah hell, it's 2008, you guys know what a forum troll on the Internet is by now.

The nominees for this award include: Henry, ShK_828, pyrochild, and BoltBait

The runner-up with 16% of the vote is... Simon Brown

And, the winner with 32% of the vote is... TopHATslash

Congratulations (I think?) :D

Now, one for the mods of this wonderful board.

The Real Estate Award:

This one's for the mod who tends to close posts the most – they are always there, just waiting for someone to break the rules or post something useless. Decide that you're gonna make a post wrong forum? BAM! This guy moves it before you even get a reply. Some n00b spamming the forums with Viagra ads? BAM! Bant! Not only does this guy close posts, but he wields the banhammer in a way which would make Thor proud.

The nominees for this award include, surprisingly enough: Crazy Man Dan and ...hmmm... no votes for me, I must be slipping!

Sharing the runner-up spot with 21% of the vote each is... Rick Brewster and Ash

And, the clear winner with 53% of the vote is... david.atwell

Keep up the great work!

Now, back to an award you probably don't want to win.

The "Wrong End of A Massive Pwnage" Award:

You have seen it before… a member posts their unsupported opinion as fact and you just watch and wait for an intelligent member to come in and fry them. This award is, as the title suggests, for the member who has been on the wrong end of a massive pwnage, or has one coming their way sooner than later.

With a surprising amount of self-voting, the nominees for this award include: Bobofthedead, CommanderSozo, champjev, Hyrule, and Andrew D

The runner-up with 15% of the vote is... ShK_828

And, the winner with 26% of the vote is... Simon Brown

Congrats! And, be on the lookout for that massive pwnage! :D

Next up, an award that no one would be embarrassed to win.

The Proton Award:

This one is for the member who, overall, has the most positive input to the Paint.NET forum. Whether it's through modship, Paint.NET help, organizing UBB games, valuable input in the suggestions threads, etc; this member is always there to give something back to the community.

The nominees for this award include: Myrddin, pyrochild, Rick Brewster, CommanderSozo, HELEN, Simon Brown, and Mike Ryan

Sharing the runner-up spot with 16% of the vote each is... oma and BoltBait

And, the winner with 20% of the vote is... david.atwell

Now for an award where just about everyone came in second.

The Big Bird Award:

This one is for the friendliest soul on the boards. Thoughts toward the vernacular aside, the winner of The Big Bird Award is someone who's always warm, friendly and fuzzy to the other members.

The nominees for this award include: just about everyone

The runner up with 16% of the vote is... HELEN

And, the winner with 58% of the vote is... oma

Keep sharing those hugs, oma!

Next, we have an award that everyone would win, if only we knew you better.

The Howard Hughes Award:

This one goes out to the most eccentric member of the boards. Whether it's stem cell research, abortion, or what they had for lunch yesterday; this member always seems to be on the other side of a debate. Of course, this award doesn't go to just any argumentative soul, this one's for someone who does it well.

The nominees for this award include: lots of people

The runner-up with 10% of the vote is... pyrochild

And, the winner with 15% of the vote is... Simon Brown

Way to go, Simon!

The Radiance Award:

This award goes out to the most brilliant Paint.NET forumer. This person always has something to say, and sure enough, they're usually right. They know everything about some things, and seemingly something about everything. When someone struck you as a smart cookie, this is where you acknowledged that.

The nominees for this award include: Ash, Crazy Man Dan, pyrochild, Commander Sozo, and Simon Brown

The runner-up with 12% of the vote is... david.atwell

And, the winner with 22% of the vote is... Myrddin

Myrddin, keep on shining!

The Homer Simpson Award:

This award goes out to the funniest forum member. Whether it be wit, shock value, clever writing, or some other form of humor which I'm invariably forgetting, this member is always on top of it.

The nominees for this award include: david.atwell, usedHONDA, ZizOiz, TopHATslash, Hyrule, Kemaru, and pyrochild

The runner-up with 15% of the vote is... Crazy Man Dan

And, the winner with 26% of the vote is... BoltBait

Woah! That's me! :D

Now, for the award that no one wants to win (or do they?)

The Pauly Shore Award:

This one goes to the unfunniest member. Maybe their wit isn't witty, or their shock value is too much. Whatever the case, here's your chance to recognize someone who specifically doesn't make you laugh. Oh, sure, they try... but always seem to come up short.

The nominees for this award include: Link-z, Survulus, Simon Brown, and Rubrica

The runner-up with 10% of the vote is... ShK_828

And, the winner with 53% of the vote is... vista?

Better try more loller cats, guys!

The Hit & Miss Award:

This one's for the member who we miss -- for whatever reason (work, real life, bannination, death by meteor, etc.) they've left the discussion, and the Paint.NET forum members want them back.

The nominees for this award include: -Expiration-, mattblacklamb, MadJik, jizzer, and ASH

And, a moment of silence for our winner... Code_Ember who passed away earlier this year.

We miss you!

The Spool Awards:

This category recognizes members who are big names in certain threads or certain types of threads for their knowledge or help.

1) Captain N: (The UBB gamer) david.atwell

2) The MVP: (The sports guru) LFC4EVER

3) Siskel & Ebert: (The movie guru) MattBlackLamb

4) Rolling Stone: (The music guru) Andrew D

5) 101010: (The computer guru) Rick Brewster Let's see... the guy who wrote Paint.NET... wins! :D

Congrats to all!

Next, on to the awards for Paint.NET prowess!

The Picasso Award:

This one goes to the member who consistently creates the weirdest art (in a good way) using Paint.NET.

The nominees for this award include: Ash, TopHatSlash, -expiration-, MadJik, Survulus, Kemaru, CommanderSozo, and ShK_828

The runner-up with 15% of the vote is... Welshblue

And, the winner with 21% of the vote is... oma

Well deserved recognition!

The Monet Award:

This one goes to the member who consistently creates the most beautiful art using Paint.NET.

The nominees for this award include: BuzzKill, LFC4Ever, Jannettsue, cjmcguinness, CommanderSozo, Crimson, petewolfbane, and TopHatSlash

The runner-up with 16% of the vote is... -Expiration-

And, the winners with 22% of the vote each are... oma & Ash

The GE Award:

This one goes to the author who created the best plugin of 2008.

The nominees for this award include: Madjik, KrisVDM, Simon Brown, and BoltBait

The runner-up with 30% of the vote is... Ed Harvey

And, the winner with 45% of the vote is... pyrochild

I think we're *all* the winners of this award, don't you?

The Marlboro Award:

Ever see one of those sigs and thought "Wow, that really makes me think!", or "Gee, that's awesome!"? Well, here's the category where you get the chance to recognize the member with that sig. This award is for the best signature of 2008.

The nominees for this award include: Crimson, Commander Sozo, Champjev, LFC4EVER, Soap, and Jake2k

The runner-up with 20% of the vote is... TopHatSlash

And, the winner with 27% of the vote is... Helio

Now, a few things thrown in just for fun!

1) “And your newest mod for the Paint.NET forum is Simon Brown!”

2) “Wow, look, Ash is showing their art in the Louvre!”

3) “Hey, Simon Brown has his own TV show!”

4) “Hello, I’m Rick Brewster, and I’m an alcoholic.”

5) “In local news, police have finally gunned down Crimson from his murderous rampage.”

6) “OMGWTFLOLBBQ, Simon Brown just got bant good!”

I'm not sure what to make of this... Simon, they want you as their mod and they want you banned... :?

(My keyboard is on fire now... can't feel my fingers...)

And, finally, the award you’ve all been waiting for...

The Kings/Queens of Paint.NET:

This award is plainly & simply the popularity contest you know you all want. You select 4 of this year's most popular forum members -- be they friendly, smart, interesting, funny, some of the above, none of the above, or what -- this award is for your favorite posters. As one voter put it, "I'll let you decide who are the kings and who are the queens!"

The nominees for this award include just about everyone!

Sharing the fourth place spot with 26% of the vote each are... BoltBait and Helio

The runners-up with 30% of the votes each are... oma and TopHatSlash

And, the clear winner with 36% of the vote is... Ash

Well done, one and all!

:D

That about wraps it up for this year. I'd like to thank each and every one who turned in a ballot. You guys rock! Also, to CommanderSozo for making the nifty banner you see above.

And, to all the winners, I raise my glass, "cheers!"

Good night. Rick, use a designated driver. Be safe, everyone. See you all next year!

Congratulations to all the victors, and thank you all very much for the Proton award. You guys are awesome. Here's to a great 2009!

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

I'm not sure what to make of this... Simon, they want you as their mod and they want you banned... :?

They want me to ban myself. :P

Yes, you're to pwn yourself. ;)

---

@CS: Bowzas, that's a beaut! I tell ya', though—it takes a wide range of talents to be nominated for all the awards that you were. Keep it up; I'm sure you'll get something!

---

Many hearty felicitations to all! Thank you for the award, it's great to know that so many enjoy my work.

TopHATslash, it was a close race! Thanks also for the support. :)

Jake, this is an enigma. Next year, pull out some of your old works and wear them. Then we'll see what happens. ;)

Also, thanks to our host—good work, BB!

v An excellent open–source strategy game—highly recommended.

Nominated for Mimi Bobeck?! Ohhh...kay... haha.

Thank you to everyone who voted for me, especially for the GE award. Hopefully you will like what I've got planned (and in some cases, already started) for release in 2009!

thanks for all those who voted for me. I just checked my big bird outfit still fits even with the 10 lbs I gained over Christmas. Oh heck, I know I'll lose that quickly, chasing around the forum trying to keep current with all the fine galleries. So much art to see and so little time.

I'm not sure what to think about the Picasso award for the most weird art (in a good way) and the Monet award tie with Ash for the most beautiful art. Are there a bunch of closet abstract lovers out there I don't know about.:lol:

And what a wonderful feeling it is to be part of the royal family, that is truly a nice feeling to know that others like my artwork and I'm classed in with such fine company.

To all the other winners in the other categories all I can say is well done. There were so many fine art pieces this year I found it was hard to decide, if I had my way I'd say we all are winners for having such a fun, fine forum.

ciao OMA .

Congratulations to all who won the awards. Oma and TopHATslash, congratulations to you both!

TopHATslash: I knew that you'd win for the troll award. I think that it's a good thing. lol.

Oma: I'm happy you recieved the recognition. You deserve it because without your motivating images, some of us wouldn't make it through PDN.

Congratulations to all winners of 2008!!!!
