MartinC Posted November 24 Posted November 24 Apologies if this is the wrong area, but I have a bug with Paint-Net ... first ever, it is a great program. After getting v5.1, I do my usual methodology of opening a JPG, selecting Image|Canvas Size, and setting the width to greater than it was previously. Expected behavior (which has happened successfully for over a decade) is to have whitespace added to the right of the image, into which I can drop a Text box. However since the load of v.5.1, the width of the image is increased, but the increased area to the right is not whitespace: it is the gray checkerboard pattern that seems to mean an area that is in some way undefined. I can drop a textbox on it but I can barely read it, and when I save and re-open the JPG, the area turns out to be saved as blackspace and is thus unreadable entirely. It is possible - though I think unlikely - that I have accidentally selected some default option from somewhere and changed it. If so, please advise, as I need the old functionality back. Quote

This was a change made in 5.1: On 11/12/2024 at 9:35 AM, Rick Brewster said: Changed: Image->Canvas Size will no longer use the secondary color to fill in new areas for the "background" layer. It will always fill with transparent black (#00000000). Paint.NET 5.1.1 (currently in beta) adds an option to choose the canvas fill type. There are lots of posts about this change. Please install the latest 5.1.1 Beta. See https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/132345-paintnet-511-beta-build-9093 And read the release notes for the prior Beta which shows how the 'problem' has been resolved to everybody's benefit.
