Gree9 Posted November 17 Posted November 17 Hey there, I've got a question, what is an easy way of adding cinematic bars to photo's, pictures etc? By cinematic bars I mean black bars on the top and bottom of the screen, i've looked through the forums and google but I can't find anything. Already downloaded ''Borders 'n Shapes'' but this only adds a way to add a border on each side and not just top and bottom borders. I hope someone got an easy solution for this. Thanks in advance. Solution Tactilis Posted November 17 Solution Posted November 17 Unless you want to cover existing parts of your image, you will need to make the canvas taller first, then fill the extra top & bottom area in black. Here's one way: 1. Ctrl+Shift+R or Image > Canvas Size 2. Enter a new Height that is the existing height plus 2 * the desired height of the black bar 3. Set the Anchor to Middle 4. Click OK. This will add transparent areas top and bottom. (See note about Paint.NET 5.1.1 below) 5. In the Colors window, set Black as your Primary color (click the icon) 6. Press F to activate the Paint Bucket tool 7. Hold down Shift to activate Global mode and left click in either of the transparent areas to fill both with black. 8. Press Enter to Finish the Paint Bucket action. Note: In the upcoming 5.1.1 release, it will be possible to select the colour that the new areas are filled with when the Canvas Size is increased. In this case you won't need to do steps 5, 6, 7, 8. 1 Quote

Covering the existing image with black bars. I am making an image with my screen resolution for a background, but if I make it bigger the resolution is off. Edited November 17 by Gree9 Quote

There are several approaches. Here are a couple: 1. Create a rectangular selection at the top. See https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/RectangleSelectionTool.html 2. Set the Primary color to black. 3a. Fill the selection with the Primary color by pressing Backspace or Edit > Fill selection or 3b. Fill it with the Primary color using the Paint Bucket tool. See https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/PaintBucket.html Note you will probably need to increase the Tolerance to 100% so that you fill all of the area (depends on the colors in your existing image). Tolerance is explained on the Paint Bucket Documentation page. 4. Repeat 1 and 3a or 3b for the bottom bar. 1 Quote
