What did you receive for Christmas 2008?

Recommended Posts

A bunch of stuff, but more importantly; time with people I don't see too often.

Good point. I would have to say the same thing, It was a gift to see all my relatives and people I don't see too often. I also received a floor mat for my car, a steering wheel cover, car cleaning and polishing stuff, a usb DC current charger for my car, a grippy pad to stick on the dash of my car.... can you sort of tell what I got based on that (just bought my first car in Late November, haven't had much of a chance to drive it because it is a stick shift)...still have to learn :D

Well there was not to much I really want. Well thats a lie I wanted a Cowon Q5W 80 GB PMP to replace my iPod video but lets fact it $700 is a lot for one gift so that still on my "waiting for my iPod to die" list.

So what did I get you ask.

Misc

A lot of new clothes (Got to say, I look good in black :P)

Shaving Stuff (Got to keep my beard nice and trimed)

Candy (Now I got food for them box sets)

$20 (Wow that paid for one of my gaming servers)

Anime

Hellsing OVA IV DVD (Now I got to wait for V to come out so I can see that one)

Elfen Lied Box Set (After seeing it, I will never put it in my DVD player again, what a major disapointment)

Wolf's Rain Box Set 1 & 2 (It not my style but it not bad, I been enjoying it so far)

CD's

WWIII by K.M.F.D.M (Thanks Rick for getting me into this band, I love this CD)

Books

The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism by Naomi Klein (Had not had much time to get into it but so far this is right on point with more then enough proof backing it up)

Games

Call of Duty: World at War for the PC (Been enjoying this and running a few servers in NY for it)

Computer

8 GB Jump Drive (I really liking this as it's big enought to install OS's or moives. Tryed installing windows but it messed up when it got to the CD key part. Going to install Linux on it next)

Well I believe that it.

Hope you all enjoyed your xmas. I found I was busy before xmas, busy after xmas, and even right now I am getting ready for the last 3 courses I have left at college and trying to redo my resume as it will be soon time to start looking for a programming job or networking job with a nice pay rate. On top of all of that I been working on some websites, started making levels again, and today I started to take on a new project of making an rcon tool in Java. Been messing around with making client side sockets in Java for UDP and trying to get the UDP packet information down path right.

Well 3:11 AM, time for sleep.

Wii Stuff

Super Smash Bros. Brawl (which doesn't work, and get this, I got a new one but that doesn't work either, why?)

You need to update the Wii to run Super Smash Bros Brawl, have you done that?

It'll automatically try when you run the Disc Channel. But....do you have an American version of the game with a European Wii? That's probably why it won't work...

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

You have to update the Wii

As David said above, I thought it just done that when you inserted the disc or do you have to do it manually? It just comes up with "Unable to read disc" "Check Wii Operations Manual for Troubleshooting" I checked, it should work and yes, it's the correct version, I'm in the UK and it says on the back will only work on PAL systems and it is. I'll get there somehow.

I got a nice LCD monitor, an E5200, 4GB DDR2 800 RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and some cash (which will be spent on an upcomming trip my church youth group is going on).

To be honest, I don't see a huge difference between my old Pentium 4 (oc'd to 4.2GHz on a 1200MHz FSB if I remember correctly). The E5200 OC's a little better now that I updated my mobo's BIOS (Gigabyte EP35-DS3R, P35 chipset), but I've only pushed it to GHz successfully so far.

The new RAM could be what's holding me back though. It doesn't OC as well as my old pair of 1GB sticks. But even when I kept the RAM close to stock settings and upped the voltage on both the FSB and NB, the CPU didn't OC very well. It only stay stable while running Prime95 at 3GHz for now. And that's with a significant voltage increase.
