Marti Masters
Hi! I have a really important file that I saved as a .jpg and now it won't open. Here's what I did to create the .jpg file: 1. I did a screenshot of a .pdf file and copied the screenshot to paint.net using CTRL-V 2. I added text using the text tool in paint.net. 3. I saved the as .jpg becasue I don't think the office receiving the form can open a paint net file. Sometime after that, my husband deleted the "recent" list on paint.net. I never delete that list and I've asked him not to, but I guess he forgot and just deleted it. Today, I opened the .jpg file that I had saved on my PC, but paint.net can't open the file. I downloaded the newest paint version (including the latest beta release) and it gives me the same error. When I try to attach the file to the box below "drag files or choose file", neither option works. Can I send you my file to you via email? It took me 2 hours to fill in the form and I don't want to modify it until I know how I can save it safely. I've used paint.net for years and never had this problem before. Thanks for your help, Marti Masters
Pixey
Are sure it's a .jpeg? Can you see the image/file on your computer? If so, right click on the image/file and look at the Properties - what does it say? Tactilis
@Marti Masters you have provided a lot of irrelevant detail. This problem obviously has nothing to do with your husband and whether you asked him not to delete the Recent Files list. What you have not told us is the actual error message that paint.net gives you. Click on Show Details Then click Copy to Clipboard and paste the error details here. Most likely, what you did when you saved the image is to type a file extension of .jpg (where I've underlined) but you left the Save as type field as 'paint.net (*.pdn)' In this case you will have a file in .pdn format, which just happens to be called something.jpg I suggest that you make a copy of the something.jpg file and rename the copy to something.pdn, then try opening that file in paint.net If it now opens, then you can save it as a .jpg properly by setting the Save as type to .jpg If it doesn't open, then please give us the error details you get when trying to open your .jpg file.
