Some people want squares, some want rectangles, some want to be able to vary the grid line thickness, some want to have the grid lined up with a specific part of their image, and so on. A simple square background grid at all zoom levels would not satisfy these requirements. So, using plugins is the answer and the Plugin Index is your friend: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/15260-plugin-index/ Just search for grid Some options: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/121343-boltbaits-gpu-accelerated-plugin-pack (Render > Grid / Checkerboard https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/8375-drop-shadow-and-other-effects-krisvdms-plugin-pack (Render > Gridlines) It's easy to Ctrl+Shift+N to create a new layer, which will have a transparent background, and render your preferred grid on that. 21 hours ago, BJE1556 said: Many good features but also a lot of frustrations I suspect you are fairly new to paint.net and simply haven't discovered its abilities yet. Have you spent some time learning from the excellent Documentation? Click top right in paint.net or go to https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/index.html If, after that, you still have a lot of frustrations (or even just a few), then please post a new topic for each one and people will be happy to help you.
