Umbrello Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Do any of you know if rotoscoping is possible in paint.net or any other downloaded program off the net? I wanted to add the effect to a few pictures of mine. As seen in A Scanner Darkly. Quote
Umbrello Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Does anyone know if this can be done? Quote
Crazy Man Dan Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 To be honest, I'm not even sure what rotoscoping is. :? I've looked at a few definitions, namely from Wikipedia and WhatIs, but I'm still a bit lost as to exactly what it is. Seems like a form of projecting imagery to be traced as or composited with a hand-drawn or otherwise animated object... Or something like that... Are you going for that oil-painting type look? Umbrello Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Just take a look at the pictures I've provided. And maybe watch a trailer of A Scanny Darkly for a better insight as to how this works. Quote
A_Pickle Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 I'm not sure what you want to do... Quote Photobucket - Blog Newest Film: Beowulf (Feel free to PM me comments, criticisms)
Crazy Man Dan Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 If what you're looking for is that thickly inked, oil-painting look, you might give Inkscape a shot. It's a free Vector-based program from the Sourceforge community, and it has PoTrace built-in, which allows you to trace vector paths from a bitmap. For example, I did a Google Image search for "person," and here's Mr. Carl E. Person: And here he is after tracing with a combination of Color Multi-Pass tracing and Edge Detection tracing: You can get Inkscape here: http://www.inkscape.org/ If you have any questions about how to use it, feel free to e-mail me here: crazymandan@gmail.com Hope that helps! Umbrello Posted June 29, 2006 Author Posted June 29, 2006 Those image links you provided do not work. They say: My image for this link is no longer here. But thanks for the prog, I'll check it out. I'm kind of a n00b at paint progs and stuff, could you do a step-by-step guide as to how to do this, please? Quote
Crazy Man Dan Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Gah! My images were broken! Sorry about that... I had them as .png, but they were rather huge, so I uploaded .jpgs, but I didn't change the message references to .jpgs. They were still in my cache, though, so I saw them and assumed everything was hunky-dory... Anyway, if you'd like a guide on how to do it, shoot me an e-mail so I can get your address. I'll respond with the guide. Since this is the Paint.NET forum and all, this isn't the place for Inkscape tutorials. Quote I am not a mechanism, I am part of the resistance; I am an organism, an animal, a creature, I am a beast. ~ Becoming the Archetype
Rory Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 One, question... How did you convert the svg. image to jpg. without losing any quality? Quote
Bob Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 It losed quality. It's just not noticeable. Quote No. Way. I've just seen Bob. And... *poof!*—just like that—he disappears into the mist again. ~Helio
sagedavis Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 apparently, rotoscoping is not actually done with software. They make film then they recolor each frame, by tracing over it. Of course, you can come close to the effect using the oil painting tools, toon tools, cutout, and the line tools. Sage Quote When in doubt, Try it out. I made this sig file using http://www.anim8or.com and making all of the textures with http://www.getpaint.net I love freeware.
Rory Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 It losed quality. It's just not noticeable. kk. How did you actually convert the image? Because inkscape doesn't appear to give the option of saving as jpg. Quote
Crazy Man Dan Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 File -> Export Bitmap. It will be exported as a PNG with alpha. You can then pull it into PDN (or any raster editor) and save it as a JPG.
