Color Labels in Palettes?

I make a number of different palettes. (Someday, I might combine them into a couple of larger ons.)

Is there a way to set up the palette text file so that when you hover over a color in PDN, it tells you the name of the color?

There is currently no capability to do that in paint.net.

It would be a useful feature to have though.

Indeed, it would be! Perhaps some day.... in, of course. Rick Brewster's copious quantities of spare time....

I'm not sure if this is what you want...

Load your palette, then use this plugin to render it as a large color swatch: https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/112111-i

In the layer, use the Color Picker (shortcut K) to load the color into one of the color slots.  In the expanded Color Window, you can read the Hex code of the color.

(or do you want a descriptive color name?)

EER,

I can access the hex codes easy enough by opening my palette! In point of fact, on a couple of them, I have added non-printing comments telling me which hex code belongs to what name.  However, that doesn't show up when I hover over a color with the color picker or my cursor.

That's what I was wondering -- was there a way to put a comment in my file such that it would show when I hovered over the color while working.

It does not appear that there is a way to do this, alas.

..or you could render your palette to a layer (see https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/112527-list-of-color-palettes-ymd180301/ ) and manually name some of them using the text tool.

Are you looking for 'standard' colour names as shown in the external 'name that color' links @Ego Eram Reputo gave, or are you wanting to name your palette colours according to the use that you make of them; e.g 'Book title red', 'Cover background blue', etc?

Those are both very useful, though not quite what I was looking for. What I was looking for was to be able to hover over a color in the pallete which is active in PDN, and have the name assigned to it in the palete pop up.

This does not appear to be possible at this time.

https://maketintsandshades.com/ btw, is a real useful link when working with various shades and tints of specific colors.

Either / Or!
