Firano
I need to give ink spread effect (something like feathering, but not exactly that) to an image resembling fountain pen ink on low-quality paper such as newspaper or cheap copy paper. So far, I have tried following effects, as well as many others, but none of these has given desired result. Effects > Artistic > Oil Painting Effects > Blurs > Gaussian Blur Effects > Distort > Crystalize Effects > Distort > Dents Effects > Distort > Frosted Glass Effects > Object > Feather Effects > Object > Feather Object Effects > Object > Old Feather If anyone knows, how to achieve the desired effect, please guide me. Firano
Existing plugins to create feathering or edge softening effect render symmetric and very limited effect, where as I need to generate asymmetric ink spread effect. A good mix of ink fading, feathering, bleeding and ghosting would do the job.
BoltBait
Can you recreate the image using a font? https://www.dafont.com/chilling-trickster.font Quote Download: BoltBait's Plugin Pack | CodeLab | and a Free Computer Dominos Game
Firano
Thanks @BoltBait for quick reply. Any font like Times New Roman, Calibri, etc or graphic shape like line, square, circle, etc can be used. Just show me how to achieve the result. BoltBait
Making the lines thicker is no problem using the Median blur: But, making the ends thicker (circled in red) is going to be a problem (I think). Firano
"Median blur" is not available on my Paint.net instance. Perhaps, it is labelled as "Median" and is under the "Noise" category. Am I right?
Tactilis
1 hour ago, Firano said: "Median blur" is not available on my Paint.net instance. Median Blur will be available in paint.net 5.1, which is currently in beta testing. It's mentioned in this post https://forums.getpaint.net/topic/126920-paintnet-51-alpha-build-8900/ Go to the Preview Center if you wish to install the latest beta. Firano
As per the mentioned post, Quote Median Blur is a rewrite of the old Noise->Median effect. It accomplishes the same thing but uses the GPU for rendering.
Red ochre
I recommend experimenting with Furblur (short length and all directions) and Grow (Many iterations and with 'edge randomness set high). NB. Both effects run quicker if used within a selection that is slightly larger than the relevant area. So the effects don't have to process the whole layer. 2 2 Quote Red ochre Plugin pack.............. frio
Here's my approach with Furblur as per Red Ochre's idea, Median (or Median blur, regardless of your version it should have similar results) and Levels adjustment. I drew "ink blots" at the end of the lines manually, then applied Furblur with maxed out length and angle variation and main length tuned to have moderate fuzz no more than twice the line thickness (I used 15 for this example thicknesses). Finally, I applied Median (blur) with radius set to 4 and percentile 85 to eliminate the strands and round things towards white, then used Levels adjustment to make it crisp black, for this example I set input levels to 191-230. Welsh Yellow Cheddar
I enjoy trying suggestions. Here is my try. Started with some text (I forgot a T ☺️) I blurred it and removed the white area. Then I just used Furblur effect followed by Rubber Stamp and added a paper texture below the layer.
