Color picker layers problem

Recommended Posts

So I noticed that for a while the color picker tool changed drastically and works much worse than before. I'm a mapper and for almost all of my maps I use mountains texture. A problem arrives whenever I wanna copy a color when simultaneously having the mountains texture on (another, transparent layer). Instead of getting the same color, I get a really different one of other saturation, most of the times tinted/shaded. If I want the original color, I need to swipe through all the layers to find the mountains texture, turn it off, and then once again copy the color. However, when I use the tool for the first time since opening the program, I get a normal color result, but it instantly goes to behaving like it does right on the second try. I bet there is an option to change how the color picker tool works, though I can't find it myself. Well I probably found the option, but it doesn't work. you can choose between having the color picker to copy the entire image's color or just one particular layer's. Unfortunately it doesn't work and nothing changes after I switch the button. It frustrates me and I spend significantly more time on working in the program because of this. It really makes a huge difference.

Pls guys help me with this, I'm really exhausted, and I start thinking of switching to another program just because of this single issue. 🙏🙏

I'm not aware of any change to the Color Picker tool. What version of paint.net are you using?

The Color Picker should pick up the RGB value and opacity of the pixel you click on. This will be affected by whether you are sampling Layer or Image.

Just for info: In Settings, if you set the default Sampling option to Layer, then you can temporarily switch to sample from Image, without having to change the setting in the toolbar, by holding the Ctrl key when you click.

This is explained in the Documentation here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/ColorPicker.html and is shown in the hint in the status bar:

There haven't been any, not since 4.0 in 2014, and less than a handful of bugfixes since then.

@rami.the.wysloucha, Please confirm that you're using the latest version of Paint.NET (5.0.13)
