K10201002001
I have this 5K*2.35K 24.2MB image that got corrupred when saving, is it possible to recover this? My compter has 8gb of ram, yet my file it kept crashing, one crash it just never recovered. Help. The file has 5 layers. Strange thing is, I can still see the little thumbnail of the PDN file, so I assume it may be part save-able? I've seen something about "irfanview" can see corrupted files?, thats what @null54 said 5 years ago. I tried it, but even their it gives an error. If you have a powerful enough computer, can someone please have a look at this? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1BHu-kxi6aiAQ6mc59hl05G-nukaLhR_f/view?usp=sharing
Rick Brewster
Try opening Paint.NET by specifying the /ignoreCorruptPdnChunks command-line parameter and then opening the image If you don't know how to do this, here's how: Make sure Paint.NET is closed Right click on the Start menu In the menu that pops up, click on Run which is near the bottom In the textbox, type paintdotnet:/ignoreCorruptPdnChunks and then press OK Paint.NET will start up, and then you can try opening the image again This might work, but it also will probably leave you with an image that has a bunch of missing/broken pixels. Tactilis
@K10201002001 PDN 4.3.1 was released in September 2021. It's ancient and is unsupported. By not updating, you have been missing out on many bug fixes and new developments, including some that improve performance and reduce memory usage. The Change Log for paint.net is here: https://www.getpaint.net/roadmap.html To ensure you are always notified of updates, go to ⚙️ Settings > Updates and enable Automatically check for updates when paint.net starts
Rick Brewster
Yeah that's why we have this sticky post, because using an old version is the #1 cause of crash reports. I'm still getting a trickle of crash reports from folks using 4.0.19 or earlier where the Shapes tool would crash with a BadNumberException. Like c'mon folks that crash has been fixed for 6 1/2 years now. Install your updates. They're good for you.
