Paint.NET's treatment of metadata

Recommended Posts

After the searching the forum on metadata, IPTC, EXIF and XMP, I'm confused.

I load a jpeg image into Paint.NET that has embedded metadata (EXIF, IPTC and XMP), several sources conform the existence of the metadata -- ExifTool, IMatch, PhotoMe, IrfanView, Photo Mechanic and MS Pro Photo Tools. I edit it (eg sharpen), and then save as a jpeg with a different name, when I look at the saved image with ExifTool, Imatch etc there's no metadata!

Should Paint.NET preserve an images metadata when the edited image is saved? If it should then either its not working or I'm not using it correctly, if its the latter what do I need to do to get Paint.NET to preserve an image's metadata.
