survulus
I think it's remarkable, if you went back in time 100 years and told them hat in a century there'd be a black president the reaction you'd get... they'd laugh. But look how far we've come, it's brilliant. And don't worry about the whole female leader thing Hillary Clinton had going, us in the UK did that quite a while ago Quote Check out all my newest stuff on my dA I iz bassist here
david.atwell
I don't mind electing a female leader. I think most people agree with me. I do mind electing Hillary Clinton. I think she'd be a horrid leader. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. survulus
And Sarah Palin? She ruined poor McCain, she had no wit. Why can there be no intelligent or politically minded women in these situations, instead of the mindless ones they've dragged in? david.atwell
I didn't find Palin to be that bad. I understand that people think so, but I found her much less horrid than most people apparently did. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... hyrule
he gave a good speech, (we watched it in class today) but the poem was horrible. not poem-ish at all . I hope he does good, because i don't want the country screwed, but i liked McCain better, and other people even better. not good candidates this election. Well, she wasn't exactly intelligent enough for one of the highest offices in the land I don't think. I mean, the prank call from "Sarkozy"... not good at all. Amongst other things like not knowing a lot of her subjects when asked questions and not agreeing with McCain's principles quite a number of times. That's just my view though. Bobofthedead
Can we at least wait for the first hundred days to finish before casting votes for '12? You don't have to change your views, just wait for three months. And here's what gets my goat... Simon Brown
In the same way that someone may be a mile away from someone else (hindered by the mile), Palin would be a heartbeat away from presidency.

You don't have to change your views, just wait for three months. If people can still have Obama yard signs up - nearly three months after the election - then I can start talking about who I want to see in 2012. :-P And here's what gets my goat... Palin lacked "a degree of knowledgeability necessary to be a running mate, a vice president, a heartbeat away from the presidency Isn't it a lack of heartbeat that would have put Palin in power, not the existence thereof? That's a fairly common phrase used to refer to many vice presidents and vp nominees. And, incidentally, the president doesn't have to die to give the veep executive power. Power is transferred anytime the president is unable to execute his duties; dead, yes, but also resigned (i.e. Nixon) or under anesthesia (such as when undergoing surgery). Bobofthedead
Yeah, but c'mon, you saw McCain? I'm sure that, had he won, the surprise alone would have sent him to the great bicameral legislative in the sky... In all seriousness though, the stress of the job, coupled with his poor health, both as a record and in general, wouldn't have been a good idea for him. david.atwell
Actually, no U.S. President has ever died of old age in office, and McCain wouldn't even have been the oldest. So, the stress of the office wouldn't be too much, I don't think. Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... Bobofthedead
He barely had a clean bill of health at the time. I'm sure that some older people could cope with the job, but I just think that if you have had such a bad health record, you might have to consider the effects of stress on yourself. survulus
The world would have to pray to god that McCain had lived long enough to say Sarah Palin can't be president. david.atwell
Anybody else notice that Obama wasn't actually president until the day after his inauguration, when he said the oath correctly? :-P Quote The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... david.atwell
Nope. There quite simply was no president between the time Bush's oath expired and Obama's began. Or, more accurately, Joe Biden was president during that time, as he was correctly sworn in as vice president, and takes over instantly whenever there is a power vacuum. The oath is a very important part of the process, and it is very specifically prescribed by the Constitution. The Constitutional scholar I saw the other day on the news said that unless he says the oath correctly, he is not president of the nation.
