Fail.

You haven't converted me.

Everyone on this planet is equal, so everyone deserves an equal share. Simple as.

Socalism to an extent is great, but if it's used to it's fullest possibility, there is no point in it.

I think socialism should be implemented like this;

Total income - Higher tax + $A

This (if done properly) could make the poor and the average citizen have a little more money, the rich people have a little less money, and the super-rich have less money.

Then everybody would be slightly more equal, but to have much money you still need to work for it. Americans have a census right? You guys could use the results of the census to find out how much you would need to increase the tax, and how much to give back to everyone to make things fair.

Yeah, we have a census, but it's only done, like, every ten years. Makes me wonder why we need a full-time census bureau...

if everyone worked in equal amounts, then that would be true. But they don't. if you work harder, you should get rewarded much more than if you o the bare minimum.

and define what you mean by equal. equal as in we're humans, or equal as in something else like talents and achievements and aspirations.

another government agency that is pretty much pointless and takes up taxpayers dollars.... :|

If there was a person in a job that required no formal education and he worked equal hours to that of his manager (who had been promoted from his position), would you believe that they deserve an equal salary.

Simply wrong. I'm not entitled a life of relative leisure simply because I exist. Life is hard work, and everyone has to do it. Others shouldn't reap the benefits of my work.

I simply refuse to argue politics with any that hasn't read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand.

capitalism= work hard get rewarded, don't work hard, don't get rewarded

socialism= work hard, you get the same as guy who doesn't work hard.

whats the point? life is about earning what you work for. if everything is provided for you, then you don't really have any purpose.

I guess the point is, is that some people DO work hard, and aren't rewarded. You also have to realize, that some rich people didn't work hard for their money. Sometimes its passed down the family tree.

I worked my butt off to try to support my family, but I had to cut back on my hours at work because there are no day care spots available for my daughter, and I was passing her back and forth between family members. This only works so long before you have people blowing you off. Lets just say my family is not dependable, and my daughter's father even more so.

Right now, only my boyfriend is working and I'm staying home taking care of my daughter. Yes we are getting foodstamps, and yes my daughter does have a state medical card. I don't, even though it's available to me and that I'm having fairly serious medical problems of my own. I can live without treatment for them if I have to, because I realize that other people are more needy than I am. Why is that so big of a deal? I paid taxes when I worked, and I didn't accept government assistance, even though I could have, when I was working. My boyfriend pays 100 bucks in taxes a WEEK. I recieve 250 a MONTH in food stamps.

Another problem that factors into this, is we only have one car. With the way gas prices are/were there was no way we could drive over a half an hour each way to work, to pass my daughter back and forth. Anything that one of us would be making, would be going to gas. Then we wouldn't have money to pay for necessities like food and electricity because after paying for gas and rent, we would be left with nothing. I've done the math, believe me. There is no work around here. The jobs that are here you generally have to travel a distance to get to them. You can always say "Move then" but you have to have a job that pays enough to do that now don't you?

Some people truly are a victim of circumstances. Some people truly do need help. Some people truly do work hard, and still need help. I don't think a persons worthiness should be judged by "A person has money, so they must have worked hard to get it." It simply isn't always true.

Your circumstances are exactly the kind where monetary assistance is appropriate. But there's a fine line between welfare and wealth distribution, which is the way the US system currently works. I know bunches of people that abuse the system and live off the welfare checks, buying alcohol and cigarettes , all the while never once looking for a good job.

The problem is, those who didn't vote McCain/Palin could be accused of "sexism" and similarly those who didn't vote Obama/Biden could be accused of "racism". But in this case I don't think it mattered.

You could say Hillary directed her supporters to Obama and hence removed the sexism idea. That's kind of why Palin only hurt McCain - like spit in a roller coaster :| .

At least you'd know that Africa's a continent...

This is untrue. 9/10 Scientists agree that Africa doesn't exist. It's actually a holo-room made by organizations like Unicef, to make you want to donate to their cause, which is actually no less then world domination.

No, isn't it obvious? Africa is secretly the enlightened society where the Lizard lives, commanding his army of uncomplaining robots to create items of ridiculously advanced technology that can only be dreamed by us mere mortals, which He uses to manipulate us humans through factors such as the stock markets or meteorological anomalies. The Africa that we see is just a front projected from a satellite hiding behind the planet Rupert.

Ummmm..ok..? :?

This thread has been off topic for a while. So....I've heard news that the Obamas are getting a new dog, huh*? Rumour is that they are leaning towards a Goldendoodle.

*Not completely off topic ;-)

Here comes the socialized health care system... :(

(Wait- why is socialism 'bad' and socialized health care 'good'?)

Here's my view:

If I'm being asked to pay for your health care, I want a say in how you live your life. I want all tobacco products banned. I want all alcohol banned. I want all fatty foods banned. I want the national speed limit reduced to 55. And, I want mandatory exercise programs instituted. ASAP!

uumm BB you know I like you and all but I really don't think you got any place to put something you never tryed down.

I live in canada and I would never want to live in the USA because if I ever got hurt I would be better of dead !

You lose a finger and the Doc goes oh we can put that back on for $20,000 . What are you nuts. If I lose a finger the Doc is not going to ask anything from me. He will put it back on as it's covered. Think about it BB, what you pay in tax for it, is worth it in the long run because you never know what will happen. For all you know you could end up with a $500,000 bill for health care. You got that kinda of money on hand to look out for yourself. I don't but I know I pay taxs so I am covered by it.

Sorry BB but we are into looking out for all not one.

As for tobacco, well the only place it not banned in Canada is your own home and outside (Well not all places outside).

Alcohol Banned - Umm no thank you. Were I live alcohol is goverment owned and is used to help pay for some of the things that we woud be paying higher tax for.

Fatty foods banned - Ok but what happens when you ban all the fatty foods. Oh wait then the foods left would be the next in line for being banned as we would have to start looking at them as being fatty.

Speed limit you want 55 MPH which is about 88 - 89 KPH. LOL speed limit on our highways here is 100 KPH (Close enough), When getting to a city or town limits it is 60 KPH, in a city or town it is 30 - 40 KPH. I guess this is also not a problem.

Mandatory exercise programs instituted - You mean Gym Class in our schools. Geez they done that a long time ago. When I was leaving Grade 12 they even put in place a program will all Grade 10 must put in 30 hours of community service to the town.

I don't know BB but if you take a good look around the world, I think you will see that a lot of places are for it. The UK has a awsome health care system, France has the best in the whole world, even Cuba has a better health care system then the US.

Never judge a book by it's cover.

Which is why many people have health insurance.
