The Inspiration of your SIG

This is inspired by another thread "The Story of Your Username." What I would like to do here is to know what inspired the design of your SIG.

So I'll start. I love the fractal, flame & reflection look, not to mention using paint.net to express that love.

So, what inspired the design of your SIG image?

Post your current sig so that people can see which one you're talking about even after you change it.

Mine is based upon the fact that I like chess, I like Adobe Illustrator, and I like 3-D modeling. :-) Simple as that.

The Doctor: There was a goblin, or a trickster, or a warrior... A nameless, terrible thing, soaked in the blood of a billion galaxies. The most feared being in all the cosmos. And nothing could stop it, or hold it, or reason with it. One day it would just drop out of the sky and tear down your world.
Amy: But how did it end up in there?
The Doctor: You know fairy tales. A good wizard tricked it.
River Song: I hate good wizards in fairy tales; they always turn out to be him.

Well, I was trying to make something very elegant, but I didn't want it too be anything too complex. Then I came up with this butterfly effect thing. I first tried making a background full of butterflies, but that would've broken the concept of it being simple. So, I decided to go with only one butterfly. Then I had to decide the colors. Blue, my favourite color, was an instant 'yes'. The only problem was the other three colors. They had to have high differences in contrast, but they had to blend together, so they would look good. I tried dark brown, and very slightly blue-ish white, but they weren't much of a success. After countless color pairs, I had an idea of black and white. The rest sort of came by itself. The swirly thing under U was pretty easy because I had used it on many other occasions. The big blue flowery thing I put because flowers and butterflies are always pictured together. It looked really boring when it was just blue, so I made that "gradient".

Hatred does not cease by hatred, but only by love; this is the eternal rule.

I'm generally minimalistic, yet I don't like keeping the status quo. That's why my main signature is so simple, and why I set it to load a number of other random signatures via PHP scripting.

Well, I was messing around one day in Paint.NET, and my mess morphed into my previous, blue version of this sig/avatar. After a few moths, I decided it was getting old, so I changed it from blue to red and made the borders darker.

Thanks very much, yours is very good too, on the Lord of the Rings kind of theme.

Wow, I have to say I loved Fahrenheit 451, currently doing it for a school disseration. And I went to see a performance of Something Wicked This Way Comes a little while ago. Good writer.

  • 3 weeks later...

Mines was actually an accident. I first started off tinkering with the settings while checking out a font effect tutorial. I liked the text effect so much, I worked my way around it and came up with all kinds of ideas, but eventually decided on this design (thank goodness for unlimited Ctrl + Z lol). I then just made a smaller version for the avatar as well. I just wish I was better at softening the round edges without making it look too blurry and spreading out. I'm not too good with that. :?
