how do you make a line progressively bigger or smaller - with of course, the line tool-

When you are drawing a line, you can adjust the width by setting the 'Brush size' in the toolbar.

If however, by "make a line progressively bigger or smaller" you mean that you want to draw a line whose width starts with one size and then increases (or decreases) as you draw, then I'll leave it for someone else to suggest a solution.

Could you clarify exactly what you are trying to achieve please.
