Warning by Facebook after mentioning PDN.

Recommended Posts

In October this year, I mentioned Paint.net on Facebook forum and, yesterday, l received a warning from Facebook. Can someone explain to me, why what I said in the post amounts to a cyber-security risk? I have a screen-shot of the warning, but can't figure out how to post it on here.

How in the world would we know? Go ask Facebook about it :)

Or maybe we could just view this as a warning to any people who are Facebook users, and also use PDN?

Why?  It would just fuel the idea that there is an (unspecified) issue regarding Paint.NET and you'd be starting a (minor) conspiracy theory.

This has nothing to do with Paint.NET and everything to do with the exact words @0rinoco posted on Facebook, their context, and the ever changing algorithms that are used to determine what is an acceptable post.

As @Rick Brewster says, ask Facebook why they gave a warning.

Now that I think about it, maybe we shouldn’t put out the warning, if it will only start a stir.

Thanks for the realization.

FaceBook wil create a link when entering Paint.NET which will lead to https://paint.net (which is currently parked... and super expensive)

When on FaceBook, I generally post GetPaint.NET when describing our favorite computer painting program.

That’s the same problem I have on DeviantArt (a site that I kind of want to get away from), which is why I always try to include “getpaint.net” whenever I bring PDN up.

  • 3 weeks later...

Sorry about the delay in replying, but I recently lost my wife of 55 years to cancer, and things are just getting back to normal. Anyway, it seems that Facebook regarded the post as advertising Paint. net so I must be more careful in future. I tried to purchase PDN, by the way, but there was a glitch of some sort, so  I shall try again tonight. Thanks for the input.

There's no need for an apology @0rinoco. You have clearly been through a lot.

You can just ignore the message from Facebook - or if you want to share the screenshot to mentioned in your first post, then the options are:

a) Save it as an image file (for example, .PNG), and attach it here by clicking 'choose files' next to the big paperclip in the box below which says 'Reply to this topic'.
or
b) Save it as an image file and drag and drop that file into the Reply box.

or

c) View the screenshot in an image app (paint.net for example), CTRL+C to copy it, click in the Reply box and CTRL+V to paste it.

If you could crop the screenshot down to just show the part with the warning message, that would be helpful; there's no need for us to see the rest of your screen.

Thanks
