imgspace1484 Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 Hi, I've seen this chrome-esque effect style of text numerous times before and I've been wanting to learn how to replicate it, problem is, I've got no clue what the effect is called nor where to start. It looks to be a combination of gradients. Image: https://imgur.com/gNTizSM Quote
Solution Pixey Posted October 11, 2023 Solution Posted October 11, 2023 Hello @imgspace1484 here is a simple tutorial which may help you. I guess for your purpose, only use the bevel a bit less on your font: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WrKTUDICwik Also, here is a quick idea of how to use the gradient only: 2. 3. 4. 1 Quote How I made Jennifer & Halle in Paint.net My Gallery | My Deviant Art "Rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal their world is changed forever!" anon.
imgspace1484 Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 Hi @Pixey, thanks for the gradient explanation, I just have 2 questions. How do I achieve the gradient at a specific angle? The gradient tool can be wonky at times and difficult to align correctly. Is there a plugin for this? Also, how did you achieve such smooth edges? Whenever I use the gradient tool on a selection, the edges are very jagged. I'm assuming you used AA's Assistant for this but is there a way to apply gradient on a selection whilst also retaining the anti-aliasing? Sort of like an alpha mask. Thanks. Quote

If you hold down Shift when you are dragging the gradient, it will remain stable. 11 hours ago, imgspace1484 said: I'm assuming you used AA's Assistant for this Most definitely and many, many times Quote How I made Jennifer & Halle in Paint.net My Gallery | My Deviant Art "Rescuing one animal may not change the world, but for that animal their world is changed forever!" anon.

As a general tip, it's worth paying attention to the text in the status bar at the bottom of the screen. When the Gradient tool is active, it says: "Click and drag to start drawing. Hold shift while drawing to constrain the angle" The information updates as you draw the gradient, again telling you about using Shift. FYI, holding Shift to constrain the angle applies to several tools; see the Documentation here: https://www.getpaint.net/doc/latest/KeyboardMouseCommands.html#22 Do a search for the words 'Hold Shift' on that page. 1 Quote
